A comedian use to have a catch phrase, "Here's your sign", when people would do stupid things that you would think you would not have to warn them about. I had my first display show with a 6' Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnake. I can't count how many time my snake team or I had to tell people to not tap on the glass and tease the Rattlesnake. For the next show I made a sign and put it on the front of his tank that read, "Don't tease the Rattlesnake". I mean seriously, what would happen if the glass broke and the snake was able to get out. I guess it would be the last time they would do that. But believe it or not I still had yell at 3 people to not tease the snake.

I guess at the next show I'm going to have to make signs that people can wear around their neck, that says, "I'm stupid", and every time I see someone banging on the glass, I'll say, "here's you sign".

I can tell you from experience noone pays attention to anything written anymore. I cannot tell you how many times I have issues with this at both jobs. It's sad that people don't pay attention to things, especially signs...and to think, these people are driving where there are MANY signs...wonder which ones they ignore then?

That rattler is absolutely stunning! I love the pattern on it! We have canebrakes here and IMO, they're not nearly as pretty as the easterns.

Ironically, this year I have a lot of library shows. When I am looking for the libraries, I find that they have pictures sign showing you the way. Think about this, if you need a picture sign to find the library, then you don't need to find the library.

LOL!
I totally understand what you're getting at with the signs, but as Rogue pointed out people just don't read them anymore. If I were you, especially with the Rattlesnake, I would have his tank placed further back so it simply removes the ability for people to tease it but they can still see it.

Lol I saw that routine, Bill is really something else. I agree with your idea for the necklaces too! It's very irritating when people tap the displays at shows...

I just put my wife by the tank and she'll give them the evil look. That will stop them from touching the tank. lol

Right on! When I worked at my LPS, people would come right up to a display, the animal's sign and ID picture tag would be literally 4 inches from their nose, and they would ask me "So what kind of snake is this?" I got tired of catering to their stupidity and just respond, "I dunno...what does the sign say?" They'd look again and be like, "Oh..."

Then they'd ask how much it was.

The "Here's your sign" comedian is still doing shows IIRC. I forget, was it Bill Engval or Jeff Foxworthy? One of em is doing the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" if its still on TV.

Bill Engvall is the creator of the "Here's your sign" bit.

Jeff Foxworthy is the originator of "You might be a redneck if" and he is doing the "Are you smarter than a 5th grader" show.

I'm a cashier at my second job. I can't tell you how many times people will stand at the register and get pissed because no one is waiting on them...at a register that clearly and in huge letters says "closed" on a huge sign that it blocks it off. They will move the sign to put their stuff down! I ignore them. Even better is when I block off part of the store at night when we're getting ready to close because that area has been mopped (it leads to the bathrooms). I put 2 wet floors signs and two chairs together so close they're almost touching each other and people will still move them to get around them. I don't know which example irritates me more.
