I'm not too happy with how these turned out, I think I took them at 2 am in pretty much total darkness. Anyway, I still thought I'd share. Enjoy.

A bit, as they require cooler temperatures and a humidity gradient of 80-100%.

With your time spent with them what temps do you find they do best at? I wanted my next project to be an enclosure with these guys specifically in mind. Water feature and water area being the main focus.

Wow thats is a sweet looking lizard. Can you take a photo of the cage you keep it in?

Basking spot 82F, cool side 70. Humidity gradient 80-100%. I feed roaches and crickets, but because they are cooler weather reptiles they don't eat as much or as often as other lizards. I feed about four times a week, only as many bugs as he will eat.

Currently he is in a ten gallon with cypress bedding, two hides, and a water dish. I have plans on getting one or two females and putting them all in a 40 gallon as soon as I finish a new enclosure for my large group of crested geckos currently occupying one of my 40s.

Here's a picture of his current enclosure. There ARE two hides in here, but both are covered on the roofs with cypress, as you can see from the one hide facing the camera. The other hide is similar, just a bit smaller and wider, and facing the other direction.

I forgot to mention, he has a name now. It's Radar.

jaleely
05-21-12, 09:22 PM
Radar!! How cute! When did you get him? For some reason I thought you were taking photos of one for someone else, and then i thought you must have had it for a long time *lol*

Okay, so...you are pretty darn awesome at keeping your animals, and have been doing it way longer than me, so i feel like a dork saying this...but for these guys i've found that two water dishes works really well. One smaller, and one large enough for them to roam in. My girl poops in one, once a day. Makes it easy to keep the place clean, but then she also has a back up to drink from.
I kept mine in a ten gallon a long time and with two dishes and two hides she did really really well. I have her in a drawer system now, and she has more floorspace so i find she doesn't poo in her water dish as much anymore.
Anyway...just trying to be helpful! It's really awesome to see someone else with a croc skink!!

I got him May fifth, he is mine.

I will add a second water bowl right away. Thanks for the tip. I truly appreciate all the information I can get on these guys.

jaleely

Me too! I've only had my girl since August, and what little information i could find made it seem like they were almost aquatic...though there are no physical signs that they would be...she requires a lot of humidity, and really did use both water dishes when she was in a ten gallon. Which they are fine in...but if there's two i would suggest bigger, but i think you know : )
Anyway, about 70 in temp is what she prefers. I saw her trying to climb the glass, when i had her heater on the bottom and let it get warmer in there. I moved it to the side, and she stopped that, and spent time going back and forth between taking a nap near the heat, and hiding under the furthest water dish lol

Anyway, i'm just excited to see someone else have one! Especially someone i respect as a keeper : ) I know i'm going to get good information as you keep your guy and have experiences too. : )

BarelyBreathing
05-21-12, 10:00 PM
Well thank you! I appreciate that.

I will move my UTH to the side, as he does spend all of his time on the cool end. And I will definitely keep this thread updated.

jaleely
05-21-12, 10:12 PM
Awesome! And I meant it!!
I'm really excited *lol*

Okay, so I feed her crickets, and mealworms. She LOVES to dig the worms out of the substrate. She'll crawl around and find them. THEN she got fat *lol*
She doesn't eat the crickets very well...she eats from the top...bites down, and bites their backs off. It's kind of weird, i think. She won't eat the worms once they turn to beatles. She tried it once, and just mangled it, and won't touch them since.
She's a fussy eater *lol*
Anyway, I read that they should eat once a day. Which makes sense since her metabolism is that she poops once a day at least *lol*

I give crickets every couple of days (which she takes a few days to eat) and provide worms all the time, in the substrate. She will dig them out until they're all gone. She's actually not that fat...but she is well fed, and spends more time sleeping than hunting now *lol*

Okay okay i'll shut up!!!

BarelyBreathing
05-21-12, 10:19 PM
So far mine has had crickets and roaches. I've always heard to avoid meal worms because cooler temperatures= slower digestion, and meal worms are difficult to digest anyway.

I can increase his feedings to once a day. How much do you feed yours daily?

jaleely
05-21-12, 10:25 PM
Ah my roach colony is still establishing. My girl is such a picky eater i'm going to have to play it by ear for a bit to see what size and how many she can eat. I'm sure they'll burrow and she'll love to hunt them, IF she can eat them. She hates the beatles. She mostly mangles the crickets now, too. I find that she's been leaving more and more of them for longer (letting them roam around...she even had some lay babies in the once..i opened the cage to find them crawling all over and her just sitting there blinking at me not caring lol)
She really just likes the worms, though i know they're not that nutritious for her. I hadn't heard they were hard to digest though. That's annoying, because she likes them *lol*

She used to eat more. I'd put in like five crickets, and she'd eat them over a day and a half. I would put worms in there, and she'd eat three or four in one sitting, then leave the rest for the next day.

I am pretty sure she is full grown now, though, and I have noticed she's tapered off on the food.
So, i guess it's hard to say since i leave it in there until she finishes. Now she leaves it and sleeps a lot *lol*

Can you give me a rundown of keeping these little guys? I picked up some recently and figured you might know a little more about them? Pictures of the enclosure would be awesome too!

I believe the information you're looking for is already on here if you read back a few pages. If you have any specific questions, I'm sure between Jaleely and I, one of us will be able to answer.

I thought these guys were mainly arboreal. A keeper that I respected very much (who is now out of the hobby) kept a pair in a 18x18x36 exo terra with a pond that they swam in and lots of live plants and stuff. They always used the whole viv. Mainly the top and the pond.

BarelyBreathing

They can't climb very well at all.
