Hello everyone. Im having lots of trouble heating this enclosure. i never thought it would be this hard.
Okay so im using an infared bulb right now 75 watt.
Above the basking platform there are 3 flood lights, two 75 watt halogens. And one 45 watt halogen.
In the middle of the enclosure i also have another 45 watt flood light halogen bulb.
My basking spot is 125F it wont heat up the concerete properly i dont know why. how far shoould the lights be down? there like 6 inches from it.
The cool side above the substrate on the climbing branch is 75.
But the subsrate itself on the cool side is 70. It wont go up and i cant figure out why :/ Can you show me how to place the bulbs?
At night it went down to 66F and that is WAYYY to cold for a sav. What infared bulb should i be using? 75 watt halagen red?
Any help would be sweet. thanks everyone.

As I said to you before in another conversation, you will need to insulate your enclosure.

put some insulation on there and you will probably have to take out some lights.
all your heat is leaking out.

I'm gonna take a glue gun tO all the seems.
Silicon will work much better, and it still won't completely work. Go buy insulation sheets and glue them on the inside walls.
Is the enclosure sitting straight on the tile? If so that will be a major heat sink. I would at least start by putting those insulation tiles under it, and also on top, and see where that gets you to.

I agree with it sittin on the floor dirrectly. Get come styrofoam insulation and put it under the enclosure to keep the heat from going out the bottom and put some on top as well.
So make 2 identical pieces the same dimensions as the top of the enclosure. Use a double layer. Glue them together and make it nice. Then paint it black to match. This will cure both convective and conductive losses. If it's not enough do the sides and back. I am willing to be the bottom one alone will do it. I know thats a pain givin the weight o the dirt but start there. Use your temp gun on the floor. I bet its 66 degrees at night. Also have you considered a radiat heat panel over the red bulb? Your sav could touch it abd it would be ok. You almost have it. If you stay in top of everything as good as you have your gonna have an old sav down the road.

I put a 100 watt red flood in there, and boom the temps are doing good ... It was because I let it get to cold at night
Some good ideas, adding the dam, insulating the cage.Adding higher wattage bulbs just makes a different problem.
I would get rid of the stone block basking spot,it takes away alot of area-area which if you added a dam could be used as a burrow under a lighter less space using piece of wood for example, just an idea.

Keep an eye on humidity Brady

Humitdy is 99% on the hot side 65% it feels like I'm in Miami when I open the doors.

Nice!! Since you fit in the enclosure just hop inside when it's winter, close your eyes and there you go...no more plane rides.
If beginners focus on basics instead of the side distractions like taming, diet, and stimulation, all you have to do is tranfer your knowledge of what you learned from your earlier cage to the adult cage.Brady is finding without the understanding of basics setting up an adult cage isn't quite so easy and has to make compromises at the expense of his monitor. His current setup is almost identical to the one i had twenty years ago,it didn't work.
