*PICS* Burm Feeding

I fed my Burm today and though I didn't take any new pics, I thought it would be fun to share some I took in February. :)

My burmese is a 15 foot male, and weighed 23 pounds when I adopted him. He weighs about 50 pounds right now, but I'm hoping to get him to about 70 soon.

He's eating 5 to 7 pound rabbits. He hadn't eaten in 8 months before I got him so I started him on small meals and then he went off food and started eating again with this feeding. :)
This bunny was a baby Flemish giant and was 5 pounds.

Thanks! He's amazing! I was offering food about every two to three weeks but the last two feedings have been 4 weeks apart. Now that everything isn't as crazy I'm going to offer food again every three weeks.

I get my bunnies from a local breeder who culls and sells to the herp community here and I'm hoping to get some larger ones soon.

If anyone thinks I should be doing something different, please let me know! :) This is my first and only snake so I'm a total novice.

Amazing shots, I really like this guy! You look at the shots then find out thats a 5 pound rabbit and realize how big he really is lol. He'll be 70 pounds in no time! Kudos on such a great job!

It takes me about 4-5 hours to thaw a 3 pounder unless I keep adding hot water so a long time for those big guys. I generally start thawing Malaki's rabbits at 3:30 when I get home and we don't feed him until very last so it's around 9:00 but it's probably ready before that.

On the other hand, she said she gets them from a breeder so they're probably not frozen.

Fifty pounds is seriously underweight for a 15-foot Burm, but he doesn't look that bad in the pictures. He definitely should gain more weight, as he is too narrow for a Burm, but he seems like he can't weigh as little as you're describing.

For example, my 14-foot male weighs 110 pounds, and is not at all overweight. If your male is truly 15 feet long, he needs to weigh more in the 80-120 pound range.

I’ve had him for one year this month. I’m his third keeper. He’s 15 to 20 years old.

He was so excited about this rabbit. It was the first time he’s eaten in about 6 months. It took almost fifteen minutes to get it into his enclosure because he was in such a frenzy lol

I usually buy several rabbits at a time so he's fed a combination of pre-killed and frozen/thawed. I try to thaw the rabbits in the fridge and it usually takes about a day. Then I heat them up by soaking the containing bag in fairly warm water.

Fifty pounds is absolutely seriously underweight for such a large snake. I honestly can’t believe he weighed so little when I adopted him. He was literally just skin and bones. I thought he was going to die the first time he went into shed! I have been doing my best to help him gain weight but he went off food for about 6 months over the winter. I tried a variety of things to get him to eat, but he refused. But I was weighing him every few days and he wasn't losing any weight.

I was originally shooting for a weight between 90 and 110 pounds but I was told that would be too much. It’s nice to know I was right! :)

I checked the accuracy of my digital scale against a balance beam scale and found that my scale is off by about 6 pounds. Not the best news for me lol but good news for my burm. He’s actually about 60 pounds. :)

Thanks Kim, I'm not too familiar with full sized burms, but I suspected as much.

I like the tile, how did you do it and what did you use? Ceramic or Vinyl? If ceramic did you use grout or just lay it there? Can flexwatt go underneath the tile?

Thanks! My only regret is how small the tiles are. In retrospect I would have preferred square foot tiles instead of square inch because the latter make clean up a chore despite being aesthetically pleasing.
It's ceramic tile and grout was used as well, then we sealed it.

You could put flexwatt under the tile but you wouldn't be able to alter it in any way once it was in place with this enclosure. I use a pro-products radiant heat panel mounted on the ceiling.
