I know I said I couldnt get her, but I changed my mind. This is GI Jane, the yellow Macklot's Python I was tearing myself up over last week but after thinking about this long and hard, I just couldnt pass up this once in a lifetime opportunity. For 6 $50 payments I picked up GI Jane plus her arboreal Neodesha. I am very pleased.

Thanks guys. One things for sure. She and Merlin will be paired up next season. I wonder what gave her this yellow color. Is it a morph and if not, just what is it?
Sweet! Sounds like a good deal too.

Wow! She's unusually pretty and seems pretty tame.
I'm interested to see why she's so yellow as well.
Congrats on the new pickup!

All the adult Macklot's I've ever seen in person are tame like that. As I said before, the key to that is frequent handling when they're little. Thanks Rogue. It'll be a while until my excitement settles down I guess :p Anyway, comparing her to Merlin and Vanessa would place her either '08 or '09 as har as her hatch date is concerned

I wonder whatever happened to her. Anyway, thats the only exception to the tendency of Macks to tame down as they mature.

Thank you Trent.
Now I have a question to anyone who has the answer. The yellow on her is so unique. Ive never seen anything like it so I ask this... Is it an unknown morph or what is causing this yellow to even manifest intself?

Man is that sweet looking. Congrats! I say with out a doubt it's some kind of color morph.

Thats easily the prettiest mack I've ever seen. Congrats on that awesome pick up. I don't know if that is a morph or not, but It'll be a fun project to work on. Can't wait to see more of this girl!

Thanks guys. I took another pic of her perching on the logs. Sometimes she acts just like a GTP. Go figure. :p

Thanks guys. Yeah I like the way she looks as well. Im still stunned that this all happened.
Man Im already getting trade offers. Jane is not up for trade, sale or anything else, but man this guy really wants her! I find the whole thing rather flattering. :) Anyway, I uploaded a couple more pics I had on my phone. Enjoy. :)
To answer your question, the yellow is definitely different from any normal macklotts python, so breeding it would be the only way to tell if its a new genetic morph or not. I don't see how hybridising would cause a colour change like that, so I'd reckon its a mutation of some sort, just not sure if its a genetically inheritable one. Regardless, I personally would just be proud to own such an animal, which it seems you are more then humbled as it is. Huge congrats on that find, whether you decide to try breeding her or not... I do think Macklotts would have a better reputation if you decided to take the project on though. With your overly "tame" macks and her unusual colouration, you could probably start a whole new market for them! ME I'm all over the other python species, so I'm just glad I get to see pictures of this snake, so thank you for that!

Thank you Caylan. Yes I am proud to own her. She's with me for good in spite of the trade offers.

Wow Wiz! You weren't kidding!
I spoke with Tom Weidner today. He says if this is genetic, its probably recessive. Even he is stumped. He called it a mutation.

I just weighed her and wow! In addition to her being about 6 1/2' long, she weighs 7 lbs. Thats almost as heavy as Arwen whos a Dum.

my female was golden and l've seen them yellow, but yours looks likes the darker colours are subdued exaggerating the yellow pigment, any clues as to the parents?you've defo got to bred this beautiful snake,it would be a sin not to

I plan on breeding her to Merlin, my '09 male next season. That is a fact. If you have any info on this variant. That would be highly appreciated.

That would be highly appreciated.the only info l've got to be honest is my experience with mine and what l've seen in England,l bought 2 pairs from first breedings from W/C adults some years back,l grew them all from hatchings to adults and they were all different colours, from green'ish to yellow to gold, really nice snakes, although l next to never handled them they were tame, fed like pigs, completely stopped feeding from October to March, very active liked a big viv with lots branches where they spent most of their time,l've read that the males will combat real bad, mine grew quite big,the females were bigger than the males even though they were fed the same, l think theres lots of colour morphing naturally with this snake,if l was you l'd contact on of the Burm or Retic morph breeders to get their take on it because l think that you've got some sort of hypo going on with your snake

You're not the first to mention a "hypo thing". Brian Barczyk says the same thing when he saw the pics I sent him. I even did a Google search on yellow Macklot's and found nothing. You know, with each shed, she only gets brighter and more yellow? I'm still trying to figure it all out.

she is lovely! i really hope this does prove out to be a hypo trend, ive never seen anything like this one.
she is one of the nicest snakes ive seen (any species!) but i am a bit of a liasis lover!
im not sure what the export rules on these are but if it did prove out there would be a good few keepers over here interested!
well worth the money and a once in a lifetime pic up, you must be well chuffed!

Its time for an update. It seems as if Jane has done some growing so I took it upon myself to take measurements again. She is now 8' long and 8 lbs. She is still young, an '08 so I can see her do quite a bit more growing. Time will only tell just how big she will actually get.
