I'm currently working on my boa's custom cage, which is made from a fairly large, wooden, gutted television. The screen has been replaced with plexy glass and a heating pad installed on the bottom (covered so it's not directly touching the snake). Currently, I'm stuck with the basking spot. I'm not sure what my opitions are. My only idea would be to cut a spot out of the top of the enclosure, cover it with mesh and let the lamp rest on the top of the cage. If you have any other ideas, that would help greatly! Thank you. =)

If you have a heating pad won't that serve as your hot spot? Why have 2? If you want something to help with the overall temperature of the viv get a radiant heat panel.

I second the heat panel. Very safe and stupid easy to install.
The overall temp of the enclosure is directly related to the temperature of the room its in.
