Here he is. I don't know his date of birth because in all the exitment I totally forgot. His name is Houdini. His name is Houdini because after about 1 hour of having him he found a way to get out. A little tiny crack that was there when we put him in there. I also have a question. Should I try feeding him on Monday. (Thats the day he has been fed normally) I know he probably wont eat but some people say that they always do whenever they get a new snake.

You can feed him on Monday, if he eats good if he doesn't no biggie. It won't cause a lot of stress as corns are pretty good about that stuff.

Yayyy Congrats!! Finally! :D You worked hard to earn Houdini, well done :)
Now secure that cage super super good so that he won't get out again!!
And yes, feeding him on Monday should be fine. Let us know how it goes. Can't wait to see more photos of your little guy. :)

Will do it is very hard not to take him out. When I first got him and held him to put him in his cage he didn't even try to bite at all.

nice! you got a mellow one. lol my wifes old corn bit everytime he saw a finger. from hatchling to adult he was MEAN! she handled him all the time but he never mellowed out. On the flip side of that though I have seen a bunch of corns that are as mellow as can be. very cool that yours is mellow.

I am a bad keeper...i always offer food shortly after i get the critter. With the exception of maybe 3-4, everyone always eats *lol*
I have pretty tame critters though. Still, i feel like if they were upset, they wouldn't eat..

Congrats! He's a pretty corn! Sorry to hear he got loose but glad you found him. Same thing happened to my friend when he first got his little baby corn. I can't remember where he said he found him, but he wasn't hard to locate.

Like everyone else has said, feed him Monday. If not, no biggie. Just leave him alone for another few days...about 5 and try again. If you're feeding f/t, just make sure it's nice and warm for him.

I've never had one so little but IIRC every 5 days is a good feeding schedule for him. That's what my friend does with his. It amazes me how big a food item they can eat being so tiny! Take a feed pic for me! I find it fascinating!

Again, congrats! I know how long you've waited to get him :D

Will do Rogue. I will take a feeding pic. I have another question. Should I turn off the het pad at night?

I dont even think that is necessary with Corns but it wont hurt either as long as it doesnt get too cold at night where you live. Youd be surprised at how easy it is to keep a Corn healthy: a heat source, water dish, hides, good substrate and above all, a secure enclosure. Enjoy him as I know you will.

Thanks everybody! More pics coming soon but right now I am on my family computer which won't load pics from my phone for some reason. He is so fun to hold. Glad I can finally hold him. Also there will be a thread coming up today about guessing how old he is because I have no idea and would like to at least know a little bit.

GarterPython's Corn is a Candy Cane

reptile65

A "candy cane" is just a selectively bred amel.

exwizard
05-14-12, 11:09 AM
Ya well his Candy Cane looks way different than Schatzi, my Amel.

That's because it is selectively bred to look that way. I just wanted to point out that it's not a different morph. Genetically, a candy cane is still an amel. There is a HUGE amount of variation within amels. Candy canes, sunglows, and reverse okeetees are all amels.

Ok I understand and there's no dispute. It's still a Candy Cane though.

reptile65

Correct. It is a candy cane and it is also technically an amel. I just wanted to point out that the people calling it an amel were not incorrect. :)
