I say do a search of the forums. You'll find lotsa tips, including flour on the floor to see tracks or even making a trap to catch him.
Check them out and *good luck!*

thats rough! what kind of cage did you use? did you go with the sterilite/rubbermaid?
I know how exited you were to get this snake. very sorry to hear this. Check under EVERYTHING that emitts heat. (fridge, dishwasher, stove, under the T.V, entertainment centers, anywhere) also look around on here, I saw some very good D.I.Y. traps that seem like they would work perfectly. GOOD LUCK!!

Also, I know this seems kinda dumb to ask but, have you searched through the substrate?? Im sure you probably have but I have had a time or two where I was convinced my snake had escaped but he just burried himself deep in the substrate.
again I am sure you probably already did this, just trying to think of other possibillities.

Please dont ever put tape near a snake, the risks of scale loss or major trauma are too great.

I think it was more of a "desperate times call for desperate measures" kind of situation. But no less true, tape and snakes dont do good together.

Yup glad you found him but snakes and tape can end in death.

Check between the glass doors as they escape from there at the pet store.

Agreed!!! Baby cornsnakes are notorious for making their owners ask "how the HE// did he get through THAT"?!

did you manage to FIND OUT which part of the tank he escaped from ?
i've found that if a snake finds a way out,it will go straight back to it,as soons its dark and escape again
its important you check every single part of his tank, until you find its escape route
i'm really glad you found him mate, especially after all the hard work, you've been putting in at school,to get him in the first place
when i saw the title of your thread,i thought.....
" oh my god,the guy worked so hard, now the snakes escaped ":shocked::shocked:
my heart was going a hundred miles an hour, while reading through the thread, waiting to see if you found him or not
it can be pretty hard to find a small snake, thats decided to go for a stroll around the house
KUDO'S to who ever sussed out,he was in the hoover/vacum :D
ROB'S CORRECT IN POINTING OUT,HOW DANGEROUS ANY TYPE OF TAPE CAN BE TO A SNAKE (especially duct tape,it has very strong adhesive on it)
i read a thread on here just today, about snakes that had been tangled up in various types of tape.....
some of the snakes actually died from it,one was described as litterally skinned to death
^^^^^
i'm NOT having a go at you or being cheeky mate.....
i'm merely pointing out the dangers of ANY type of TAPE,being used around snakes
i'm really chuffed you got your snake back :D
cheers shaun:)

lol i get how "chuffed" is used shaun, so i see it means "happy/pleased" or something...but is it short for something? How did that slang word get created?? LOL
Cracks me up whenever i see it. ; )

Thanks Shaun and yes I found the hole that he got out and blocked it off. There are no other holes so I should be okay. I am very happy I found him. I knew that tape was dangerous to snakes and I should have thought about that. I guess I was lucky.

You got me thinking and i found this :)
The primary meaning of chuffed (also chuft) is 'very pleased, delighted or happy'; it is often found in the phrase 'dead chuffed' or extended as 'chuffed to ****', 'chuffed to arseholes', 'chuffed to buggery', etc.
1957 P. Wildeblood The Main Chance 163: Aren’t you pleased? There’s not many kids of your age what owns a factory. You ought to be dead chuffed about it 1959 F. Norman in Encounter Mar. in Norman’s London (1969) 74: Magazines or no magazines, I was very chuft to have it away a bit lively.
In this sense it appears to come from the 16th century standard English SE chuff, swollen out or puffed with fat.
[Have it away means to run off (as used here usually a criminal term, sometimes extended to have it away on one's toes), and not to have sexual intercourse, its alternative meaning]
However a second sense is based on the use of chuff as a quasi-euphemistic synonym for ****, in both literal and figurative senses; as such it is mainly used in the north of England. I offer an example of the verbal use
1959 W. Hall The Long and the Short and the Tall Act I: I’m going to grab a weekend off, and chuff the expense

I have had a lot of snakes get lose but havent lost one yet. Keep your eyes open and if its real hot check the cool spots like the bottom of the toilet. If its cool you can set a trap get your heat rock out and put it in a dark still spot and wait! Also check the hot water heater.

It was one of his air holes that was abnormally bigger than the rest. I just put a big book that I taped to the ground by the hole. There is no way the snake can even touch the tape, btw.
