View Full Version : The Great Roach Escape!
I keep my roach tubs on top of my monitor tank, so they are about 7 feet high. I went to take the first tub down today to put more food in there for them. I nearly dropped the thing, as a whole bunch were sitting on the outside and trying to scurry away! Not a nice way to start out the Monday morning. I scoured the room and found a couple more escapees.
How? They chewed through the fiberglass screen on top. I had no idea they could do this, but it was very plain to see that some of them had done just that and climbed out the hole. Admittedly, I am largely to blame as I had left the egg crates stacked high enough to allow them to get to the screen. Just thought I should give everyone a heads up; they can chew through normal screen if given the chance.

This is an awesome thread to read as I'm getting ready to post a thread about facing my fears and getting some roaches for my new gecko...
THANKS!

Wow, that sounds fun! (Sarcasm). Thanks for posting, though. I will have to be careful.

I honestly didn't put a screen on mine and I think a couple little babies are in my basement.... I've found 1. So far :( I'm going to glue that screen on ASAP!

Wow, that must have been a scary discovery! Makes me scared to start a Dubia colony myself lol.
Its just such a good food source and they are so simple to raise. Ive literally saved hundreds to thousands of dollars of feeders since I got them. Dont worry, they cant live outside their tub/enclosure so its all good

We did have some escape our tank when we first got our roaches, they were all found sat on the heat mat as the rest of the house is too cold for them. There were two that had moved further away but they were literally just staying still and i thought they were dead until i picked them up and my body heat warmed them and they started moving again.
I only assume if i hadnt reheated them they would have died :)

I know some lizard people and breeding roaches would would fill their needs. Not going to do it though because the rodents take up enough time as it is.
