so i'm so intrigued by the pied balls. but i've been trying to figure out how the genetics work with them and how to produce them but i can't seem to figure it out. so pretty much i'm just trying to figure out if i want to produce them if i need a male that is one or het or a female that is one or het. anyone able to help out?

Pied is recessive. Just buy one as opposed to breeding one out. If you use two hets you will also breed out a bunch of normals.

Pied are probably my favourite looking ball pythons, I would love to own one.
here's a good link for recessive breeding

het pied x het pied = %25 normal, %50 het pieds, and %25 pied that comes from worldofballpythons.com its a great genetics wizzard...
i have 2 hets i plan on breeding and hoping for some pieds.
as for the genetics, the gene is ressisvive as stated above, which means it needs to be present in BOTH parents to be able to be seen as a visual trait.
hope this rambling helped...

But remember that nature doesnt use percentages strictly - you could end up with 100% normals or 100% pieds ;)

If it were me, I would buy a visual male or female pied and then a het opposite if you're looking for producing more.

any reason not to get 2 visual pieds and breed them? i know they are supposed to produce 100% pieds, but is their any problems that arrise from double pieds breeding?

The only thing I can think of would be price... might be kind of expensive

Yeah the only difference is price.

As Do I, however i spoke to a breeder at a reptile show last year who mentioned To a Certain extent Pieds Can Price themselves, He said that since the White and pattern patch distribution is Random, some have become more valuable than others, Like one that only has pattern on the head and a small portion of neck and is white oon the rest of its body will usually go for considerably more than one that only has one or two patches of white
Of course to me it seems like at that point it comes down to preference
True, maybe 15% more for a high white pied compared to a low white pied. But they're still a tenth the cost of what they were five years ago.
