What do the scales feel like? I imagine them feeling like beads.

Nice... this is why I like going on OS forums, new species I haven't seen before. Is it a morph or does the racing stripe come naturally?

Very nice cape file snakes!! I own an African file snake (Mehelya poensis), close cousin to yours! Keep them moist, scent their food and enjoy them! I have mine eating f/t rat pups that I rub on my toad before offering them. The file snakes gobble them right down, but they prefer if I let the rat pups get cool.

Yeha thanks for the tip mate, the female takes unscented F/T mouse fuzzies everytime, male will take fresh kill, but not keen on F/T at the moment :)
