Low humidity in the enclosure?

For fun, low humidity, coming into shed, mites... any of this could be a reason why. We just have to narrow down which one it is...

Your temps could be to high, so it's trying to stay cool.

2 of my Five carpets Do nothing but soak or perch, they ignore their hides and the ground, On a stick or in a water bowl every time
One of em thinks shes an anaconda i swear, Ive fed her from her water dish on many occasions and she sinks all but her head in the water and waits for the prey item to pass by a few times then bam and pulls it in with her
On the bright side since her food items are always soaked and shes always bathing im sure shes well hydrated :P
Carpets are Very Personable, Do a Very close inspection for mites, and signs of shedding, double check your humidity, if everything is in order, he/she is probably just a bather

Got a magnifying glass if so take her water dish out and check to see if any tiny specs of "dirt" in the bottom are actually fead mites. They are tough to see on a carpet. You might be suprised. Or she could just like the water as some seem to.

well ive looked him/her over for mites 4 or 5 times and have seen nothing. the humidity is around 70% and temps are around 75 on the cool end and 81 on the hot end. and i doubt shed as it just shed last fri.

sounds to me like you have a bather, you should offer a long shallow container with water and see if he/she likes to swim mine loves it :p
and by love it i mean she swims around happily without trying to leave the tub, whereas my other carpets and my retic flee the swim tub like a cat

This one has literally been in the tub since after it shed.

sounds like my big jungle girl she will sit in her water all day and most of the night, go on a lap around her enclosure, then return to the dish

If you've checked for mites, checked humidity, and he shed last week, then it sounds like he just likes soaking.

Hmmm. I guess ill give it another once over and maybe get something for mites just in case. If not I guess I got a bather. Thanks for the input.

Don't treat for mites unless you see them. Mite killers are chemicals that are not good for your snake so if not needed don't use them.

imo,81F is a bit on the cold side for a hot end
did you check her shed for mites ?
imo, your humidity is ok at 70%
i have seen carpets who just like to soak
i'd double check for mites for peace of mind though
take her straight out her water bowl and swab the eyes, nostrils with WHITE cotton buds (mites gather around these areas,to avoid the water)
is the snake feeding ok ?

hot end for my JCP is 86f
^^^^^
i start all my carpets off with a hot end of 86F
then after watching the snake for a few weeks,i adjust the temps according to how the individual carpet, uses the tank to thermoregulate
i've found some carpets like it a little hotter, others like it slightly cooler
but 86F constantly will be ok as well
is he eating ok ?
what are you using to measure your temperatures ?
as said, you may just have a carpet who likes his water bowl,i've heard of a few who do

the water bowl is on the cool end. and i use rzilla digital thermostate and hygrometer. and its eating on a weekly basis.
My JCP spent almost two weeks in his water bowl before his first shed. He just started getting in again so I'm expecting another shed in the next couple weeks even though he shed 6 weeks or so ago. He's growing really fast so it doesn't surprise me.

if he's eating ok then i would NOT worry too much
i know of people with carpets who like to go into their water bowls, for no apparent reason
i would how ever make sure i ruled out " mites " as the cause
also, you can buy a good but cheap lazer thermometer, that would allow you to double check your temperatures, theres a member on here who supplys them
