Earlier last week I posted a thread regarding my Colombian Boa's rectal prolapse. Prior to that, I was unfamiliar with the condition and didn't know what I was looking at. Since then, I've been researching and researching as she attempts to recover.

The vet sutured up her vent on the sides to narrow it so that it would remain inside while still giving her room to "go." Those stitches were removed today and it still hasn't improved. So he decided to try one more time before we advance to more invasive procedures. Only this time he completely stitched it shut.

It's almost been a week since she last ate so she should be empty. Even still we are only trying this till Monday. If it still pushes out after then he may have to either stitch it to her from the inside, or surgically remove the protruding portion. He seems to think it will be the latter.

I feel bad for her and I can tell she is uncomfortable. Her activity has slowed and she has spent more time hiding. I wish I could give her some ice cream (the universal "my butt hurts" treat) lol.

It's definitely a lot harder when you can't do anything but wait. It's a very guilty feeling, and with an animal that doesn't find joy like a dog or cat, makes it harder more so

Good luck with it and keep us updated

Aww I'm sorry to hear that, it's never fun watching our "babies" not feeling well.

I hope she gets better soon!!

Sorry to hear that. I had no idea snakes could have that happen (or any reptile for that matter). I've seen it in goats and sheep but never thought about it in non-mammalian species.

wow, i really hope that vet knows what he's doing. I would call and get a second opinion either way. Poor little thing! my carpet python had a prolapse when she was a baby, but i was lucky and it would go back in ...at the time i didn't know any better and i thought it was just because she was pooping. And, it was, because she was pooping because she was scared...but eventually it healed up and went back in with no problems. I just tried not to make her poop *lol*

Ugh, can she pee? What if she has to pee before the stitches come out? sometimes the urates are firmer ... : (
