Ants build a nest in Zeus' cage :( Is it bad? At this point the only way to get rid of them is to clean his entire cage which I won't have time to do till tomorrow.

I have heard of several kinds of ants that could be harmful to your snake. As far as the regular house ant that we all get here in CA, i don't know if they are or aren't. Sorry

I'd say clean the enclosure tomorrow.

I wish we got ants. Where I live, it doesn't matter how clean or dirty your house is. If you open your door long enough to walk though, thirty flies get inside. And there's always a two week time during the summer that the mosquitoes are so bad that you can barely see your hand in front of your face at night.

Georgia is like that. Between the bugs and the humidity I have to say it's the worst state I've been to lol. Texas has chiggers tho... Now THOSE suck!

Just clean it ASAP. And maybe make a chore chart for you and your roommates so that the dishes get cleaned daily...?

Yeah, they dig into your skin and they itch like crazy! You can scratch all you want tho, it don't get rid of them. I figured out tho that those clorox bleach wipes will get rid of them..

Haha shouldn't be to bad for ya, I was only there for basic training. ALOT of time outside in the trees. If you do go exploring just keep an eye out for ticks, they get huge there lol.

Why would you even ask if you should clean them out?

It was more a matter of do I have to do it now or can it wait till tomorrow. If it's really bad and has to be done now, I'd have to call my work and beg them to let me come in later...

Do you have a tub you could put him in or anything temporarily?

I'd have to set it up. I'll just leave work early.

:confused:It takes all of 5 minutes to dump out a viv and wipe it down. I don't get why this is an issue and it wasn't done right when you noticed them.

There was three hours between this post and your initial question, couldnt you have just cleaned the tank rather than posting and waiting for responses? As someone else said it wouldnt take long to do at all :)

I didn't have any moss soaked and ready to go, and it would take more than 5 min because if I don't figure out where they're coming from, they'll be back the next day.

That and the way they use pheromones to keep track of where everyone else is going and to find the way home... Makes us look simple....

scoop up as much of the nest and the ants,then.....

put them in your house mates bed

maybe they will get the hint and stop leaving dirty dishes around

or....

transfer the nest and ants, into your house mates underwear drawer, some ants in his pants should do the trick :D

putting ants in their bed would be such a freakin good idea! they'd never know it was you...the problem is they may not realize the connection of if you are nasty and leave crap everywhere, it will attract ants.

can you put ant traps around the stand the snake is on? to keep them from coming back?

Yeah I'm gonna go buy some Borax today. I didn't put any moss back in the tank either. In his humid hide, which he NEVER went into, I put damp paper towels instead of moss, and guess where he was this morning lol. Humidity is 92% in there, so I guess the moss doesn't need to be there anymore.

can you move the snake tank, after cleaning it out again? maybe you can like, stick duct tape on the outside of the tank, backwards, so the sticky side is up, and maybe they'll stick to it! lol

Trollbie
04-22-12, 01:35 AM
I put baby powder around the tank. I also set there for an hour killing every ant that walked by. I hate doing it, but if you $%#@ with my children, that's what you get! Haha

First off don't put any poison around your tank because ant poison is designed to be carried back to the nest and shared with the others. They may carry the borax into your tank and that would probably be bad for little Zeus-i-poo. Secondly wash everything around the tank to remove the chemical trails leading back into the tank. Finally buy those glue traps and surround the tank so any insects get stuck.

As for your roommates I recommend itching powder in everything they are intimate with like beds, underwear, socks and shirts. Then start talking about body lice, fleas and mites and how dirty places get them.

We have fleas already :( I noticed them yesterday...

is baby powder poisonous?
