This isn't so much a thread as to what and why? What did you name your reptiles (or other pets) and why? As always throw down pics
My normal BP I named Doom. We were gonna call the cat that but she ended up being a girl. My second BP a pastel I named Twinkie because of his yellow, and my cornsnake Sunshine because when I first got her she always made me laugh an happy

How about you guys and gals?

It varies. A few of our animals were already named when we adopted them. One of the adoptees was named Sidney which is the name of a Pittsburgh Penguin so that caused a couple more to be named after Pittsburgh sports heroes of mine. My wife is a huge NCIS fan so most of our Royals are named after characters from the shows.

We're still trying to come up with a name for our baby retic.

Mine tend to be pretty goofy.

Mouse - because when I look at her head pattern, I see a cartoon mouse with a skinny little body, flexing it's arm muscles. My wife thinks it's the dumbest snake name in the history of dumb snake names, but it cracks me up.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/41358_106766_Large_qge38XMU61up4.jpg

Spinegrinder the Hellbeast - because he's the meanest ATB I've ever seen, and I've seen some mean ATBs.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/54280_140256_Large_ZcSbe1pK4D.jpg

Smuckers - because he looks like he just crawled out of a jar of strawberry/apricot preserves.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/79078_174866_Large_BA7SUA5a3NucjB.jpg

Mudhoney - because if she were a band, she'd be a 1990's Seattle grunge band.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/75503_174860_Large_MfFwpsEueQn.jpg

Spades - because she was the darkest Gray Banded Kingsnake I've ever seen.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/42313_87769_Large_kCNFEPebkTsvJg.jpg

Odie - because of her olive drab color.
http://www.iherp.com/Gallery/91331/55143_155394_Large_IsoiV2y8LAry6Z.jpg

Halfsquat - my son named this one after a character in Tropic Thunder

Mose, I love your critters' names. I think Mouse's head pattern looks like antlers. I'd have called him Jagermeister. ;)

And your snakes are all beautiful. I'm a big fan of Odie and Halfsquat particularly.

Sage my smallest corn who's jointly named. After the herb which smells really good and my favorite snowboarder Sage Kotsenburg.

Riddle my ultramel motley corn because he has a question mark shape on his body.

Finch Riddle's mate, full name Ringlefinch who was named by my very weird 5 year old cousin :)

Drake, my beardie because drakes are dragons and blah blah blah.

Mayhem my JCP, who actually doesn't cause too much mayhem anymore. But was named for his crazy personality which he's quickly growing out of. (I think it would be funny to have a dog tame snake named Mayhem :))

I'll do pics later. Getting ready to go out right now.

Kaybe- because where I live the town is abbreviated K.B. "Kay-Be"
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/alessia55/IMG01901-20111001-1549-1-1.jpg

Pika- because he's yellow like the pokemon Pikachu. It was a joke at first but then it stuck.

Several of my snakes are named after Harry Potter characters. My first snake, a western hognose, was named Dudley when I got him. I ended up trading him for my RTB, which I named Minerva. My girlfriend's ball python was named Severus, so I felt it was appropriate to keep the tradition going. Thus, I named my BRB Lucius.

My current western hognoses were named Bonnie and Clyde, and those were just too good to change.

I'm currently thinking about what kind of theme I want to use for my future leopard geckos.

I named all my corns after dieties: Khuno, Ananta, Helios, Pirwa, Kamrusepa and Yuki-Onna.

My B/P is named after the huge birdlike-dragon creature from Avatar, Torruk.

My dogs are all named "my friend" in different languages: Poitash and Venninne.

My cat was found in the bushes as a kitten and brought home, my son named her Peaches

My BP is named "Trouser"- I hope no explanation is necessary
My Colombian Boa is named "Eve"- Thought it was a cool name
And I've already selected a name for my future carpet "muncher"

I can tell the names are good based on how much my wife hates them lol

Yeah, Eve is the only normal-named pet I've ever had.

Even my cat Jackson has a joke behind his name. I resued him when he was way too little (he could stand on all fours in the palm of your hand) so we took him to the vet and they told us it was a girl. Well, once he matured enough, we learned otherwise. So I named him Jackson after Michael Jackson because he's a black and white cat and his gender was ambiguous. lol

I have a wide variety of names for my pets- some of them are named after their colors. My carpets are High Voltage (bright neon yellow) and Electra (in keeping with the electricity theme), and Voodoo (his pattern makes him look like his mouth is stitched). My venomous are named after personality or species- Shelby the cobra (like the car), Gremlin (she's evil after dark), Green Goblin, and Miss Buzztail. The Wagler's are named after colors or local language - Bisa Ular (Poison snake in Malay) and Jade.

Others of my snakes just have funny names, like Trogdor the Burminator and Curious George.

My dog came with her name, Aurora, but I shortened it to Rory, because Aurora is too hard to pronounce quickly. My Bengals Trigger and Flower were named before I got them, and my kitten Bengal I named Raja because it sounded exotic. My Toyger is named Shere-Khan, because he's a mini tiger cat.

Mose, I love your Amazons!!!

Starting with themed names. My leopard geckos are all named after actors and actresses. I have Antonio Baneras, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman, Dakota Fanning, Kate Winslet, Scarlet Johanson, Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Cary Elwes, Kate Beckinsale, Reese Witherspoon, Helena Bonham Carter, Bruce Willis, Leonardo DiCaprio, Zooey Deschanel, Bill Murray, Anthony Hopkins, Lindsay Lohan, Tom Cruise, Renee Zellweger, Liv Tyler, and Orlando Bloom, babies are still unnamed until we can determine sex.

Pictured is Zooey Deshanel.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/ZooeyDeshancel.jpg

My colored Amazon tree boas are all named after fruity drinks. There's Crush, Tropicana, Sprite, Daiquiri, Tang, Sunkist. My gardens have no theme. Sand Dollar was named by hubby. No idea why. Static is black and white, so that's how she got her name. And when we first got our little cream colored baby, he looked like a Noodle, so Noodles it was.

This is Crush.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0028-1.jpg

Molly is my blue tongue skink. I named her, but I don't know why I chose that name. I just remember wanting to name her something feminine because she's pink.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0174.jpg

On to monitors. My male blue tail shows some very dog like characteristics, like playing with squeaky toys, "guarding" his space, playing tug, and shaking what he has in his mouth. We thought of the most stereotypical male dog name we could, without being too cheesy. He became Max.

Dory came under the name Nemo. Dory is a female, so we changed her name to the female lead in Finding Nemo.

When we got Silvia, we had another green tree named Houdini. Houdini was constantly escaping, so his name was easy. Hubby wanted his female counterpart to have an old fashioned name. He started naming off names that I hated, then came to Silvia. When I was in Japan, I had a Nissan Silvia, so I allowed him to name her that.

Raven got his name for being black and looking like he has a beak.

We actually bought our black throat with the idea of using him in our reptile education shows. Since we knew he would get pretty large and intimidate people, we had to think of a super cute name to counter the phobia. He became Mr. Pickles. No idea why.

Here is Max.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0127.jpg

My Argentine black and white tegu is named Iris because I have no idea. Haha. Maya is my Colombian. I don't know why, either. I've just always referred to her as such. Our new baby Colombian hubby named Zorro, because he has a "Z" on his back.

Here's Maya.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0004-1.jpg

Our emerald tree boas are named after weather. It started out with Thunder and Lightning. I'm sure you can guess why (emeralds have what looks like lightning bolts down their back). Then we got Tempest.

This is Tempest.
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0336.jpg

Our boas are Rosy, Scarlett, Valentine, and Dennis. Dennis got his name because when we first got him, he escaped four times and wouldn't eat. We still to this day couldn't figure out how. We've moved him to a different enclosure. We got Valentine on Valentine's Day as a present to eachother. Rosy and Scarlett were named because our first boa was Crimson, so we decided to have a red theme. Crimson was named after an album by Alkaline Trio.

This one is is Scarlett:
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0028.jpg

Happy was named because she was a birthday present to hubby. Happy birthday.

Uhh... I think that's it for reptiles. My others don't have names unless I am completely blanking and fogetting someone.

I found it really interesting to read about how you all named your pets. And I loved all the pictures!

My African Grey is Aryll, named after Link's little sister in the Wind Waker. I liked this name and I thought it was cute since she likes to play with birds.

http://i42.tinypic.com/2hcp3x0.jpg

My Hog Island Boa is named Hylia, also a Zelda reference. I really like the name, but since it's kind of awkward to actually say (at least for me) I used it on an animal that I won't really be calling or talking to as much.

Other animals:

My two scorpions are Agony and Irony after the Alkaline Trio album (go figure). Irony is the tailless whip, because he looks like a spider (ironic?).

Irony:
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_0175.jpg

My dogs are Gunny (ex named her), Cammie (she was almost Peanut, but my neighbors said that if you say it fast enough, that can sound like a male body part, especially if you're saying something like PEANUT'S toys, or PEANUT'S bone... so she became Cammie, because she's a spoiled girl), Winter (named after a line in an Alkaline Trio song "take a look and see I painted you a picture, it's black and white except the blood's a littler richer down in the corner where I gave it my signature, and then I titled it, 'This One's For The Winter'. Check it out and see it's just a big disaster". Winter is black and white and was a mental disaster when I got her.) Then there's Nero. I named him after another German shepherd named Nero who was a police dog. The dog I named him after, despite being shot, continued to apprehend the subect and saved his handler's life. Hubby named Luna after Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter.

Here's (from left to right) Luna, Cammie, and Nero:
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/Dogs/_DSC0098.jpg

Horses are Paradigm (one of my favorite words), Lyric (I've always wanted a horse named Lyric), Mistic II (she's very white, so son wanted to name her Mystic, but we in the past had a rat named Mystic so she became Mistic II in Mystic's memory), Encore (because she's Lyric's full sister and is the same very rare color), and Charlotte, Sassy, Spring, Rowdy, and Country Gold (they all came with their names).

This is Charlotte with Lyric in the background:
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/Horses/_DSC0071.jpg

Cats- Sophie came with her name. I was only supposed to babysit her for a couple of weeks. This was almost four years ago. Dammit got his name because "Dammit, we got another animal". He fits his name, though, because "Dammit, he attacked me again!" "Dammit, he's covered in soot again!" "Dammit, he chased away the mailman again!" Then the barn cats: Thing One (we used to have a Thing Two but a neighbor fell in love with him and he lives in their house now), Bettie (friend named her), Dust Bunny (because she looks like she had been rolling in dust all day, but that's just her color), and Spooky (all black).

This is Dammit caught squeaking the dog toy:
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/DSC_00332-3.jpg

Our goats are Cinderella (son named), Scooter (he's a fainting goat but sometimes he "faints" but doesn't tip over and he kind of scoots away because he can't move his legs), and Buck (came with his name).

Here's Buck (with Paradigm and Sassy in the background):
http://i1134.photobucket.com/albums/m611/SnakeShed/_DSC0023.jpg

And my sugar gliders are Awww! (because that's what people say when they see her) and Gollum (hubby named him).

This is Awww!:

Vodka- because she's absolutely wild

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v651/alessia55/IMG_8268.jpg

and last but certainly not least... my new baby, Miko! His name has no meaning or significance. I wanted a short name with the letter 'k' in it and easily pronounced in English and Spanish. He turned 1 month old this past Monday :)

Cirque du freak is a great flick! To many people hate on it! Lol great name for a snake!

I am honestly a huge fan of the books and not so much the movie, in the movie they changed to many of the characters around. In the book all Evra wanted to be was excepted for who he was and to be loved as more than a "that snake freak" in the movie he wanted to be a rockstar and didn't pay much attention to his snakes.

But yeah, not a bad movie at all just nothing like the book ;). (sorry about that, rant over)

Ok this is going to take several posts so bear with me. First off is the first 2 Dums we got 2 tears ago, Plus the breeding trio we got shortly after that. In this order, we have Kermit and Miss Piggy the '09 Dums, then the trio of '02s including Popeye, Back Betty and Lulu (R.I.P). Popeye and Lulu were named after cartoon characters and Black Betty was named that because of how dark she is.

When we first got the '09 Dums they were still babies and the female ate agressively like a pig, thus her name. Of course that made the male Kermit since we got them as a pair.

Next is the rest of the Dums plus the '09 Maclots. First we have Gandalf the Grey, Arwen and Euryale plus theres Merlin and Vanessa. Gandalf the Grey was named this because of his color. Of course that made the female we got that same day Arwen (lord of the Rings theme). The last Dum I wanted to name Medusa but we already had a rat by that name so we settled for one of Medusas sisters. Then theres Merlin and Vanessa. Merlin was named after the wizard in the King Arthur story and I thought the name Vanessa was perfect as a snake name, feminine yet mystical.

04-19-12, 04:08 PM
Next are the yearling Macklots and the Brazilian Rainbow Boas. First pic is Lancelot, then Guinevere. Then theres Rita and Ramón. Lancelot and Guinevere follows Merlin in the King Arthur theme for the Macks. Rita was named that because she was the pearl I found in the midst of everything else there was at that reptile show. Ramón was named that because of the Latin American flavor of that name.

Next is the IJ Carpets and the Corns. First off is Mick and Sheila. Then theres Carl (R.I.P), Schatzi and Hellboy. I wanted an Australian flavor for the names of these Carpets, even though I know Irian Jaya is part of Indonesia, I say clsose enough. ;) Thats why I sesettled on the names Mick and Sheila, after Mick Dundee and we all know "Sheila" is Australian slang for female. Carl was given his name because thats what popped in our heads at the time. If he was a she, the name wouldve been Carly. Because Carl had kind of a Greman flavor to it, we decided on Schatzi because schatz is German for girlfriend. Hellboy is not mine. Hes only on loan to me for breeding purposes but when I found out what his name was I was like "there isnt a better name for him. Look at his color".

Cant forget about the furry pets, none of which I chose the name for. First theres Toby and Copper for the dogs. Then theres Odusseus and Shishio for the cats.

Ok thats it for me. :)
