Someone from Reddit told me the community here is a lot more knowledgable than the snake/reptile subreddit subscribers, so I figured I'd check it out.
My name is Maddie (MaddieCakes on Reddit, so MaddieSnakes here!), I'm 25, living in Nebraska, and I got my first reptile January 5th, 2012. He's a male spider ball python, and I named him Tesla. A lot of people assume it's because of the Tesla coil, but I called him Tesla because I think his markings look like bolts of electricity.
I've always loved reptiles (snakes especially), but growing up with a family who feared/disliked them, it never occurred to me to actually keep one as a pet until recently. So last year, my only Xmas/birthday wish was cash or Petco gift cards so I could afford to get a habitat set up, and then order him from a breeder.
After some searching, my dad and I settled on Garrick DeMeyer, out of Wausau Wisconsin (and I ABSOLUTELY recommend him).
I've had Tesla almost 4 months now, and he'll be 8 months old as of this Sunday. I love my cat and my dog, but I am absolutely amazed and fascinated by the sleek, gold and black beauty that is my spider ball. He's my baby.
No, seriously. My coworkers show off pictures of their newborns, I show off pictures of Tesla. My coworkers get giddy about their babies eating solid food for the first time, I get giddy about Tesla's weight gain or when he has a perfect shed.
Snake-lover and proud!
