Hey guys thought I would show you my new addition to the family. Her name is Sprite. She is a Lavender Albino Tiger 50% Dwarf Reticulated Python. I got her on Sunday. I picked her up from Kim aka WillOW783. She is just so sweet and her colors are outstanding! Can't wait to feed her on Thursday. The retic feeding response is awesome! I will have to get better shots of her once she is all settled in. Hope you enjoy! :p

Just out of curiosity and forgive my lack of knowledge on the species but what is the average size of a dwarf retic? I know normal retics get huge but I've been seeing ALOT about dwarf retics.

Sprite is not a full dwarf but seems to be falling for the "smaller" size. Most dwarfs get up to about 14 - 15 feet, some females can even get to about 16 or 17 feet. Super dwarfs normally stay between 6-8 feet.

Dang! Thats still a pretty big snake! I think I like the super dwarfs lol. My wife and I can't get anything big right now, I have NO experience with anything bigger then a red tail boa and with a one year old who's now learning to be mobile we don't think it's to good of an idea. I'm sticking with colubrids for now. One day I'd love to have a big species tho, maybe one as awesome as your new addition!

Don't let their size fool you, SDs are still very powerful snakes and can be a handful.
Depending on locality dwarf females can be anywhere from 10 feet to 18 feet with half dwarfs being on the larger end due to the mainland genetics.

I think retics are cool they're very smart also I mean all animals are very smart but retics are extremely smart and observe alot...I've saw a few sit and watch me from time to time lol it's so crazy and how one might not like how they have to go in cause they're play time is over so they do something that causes you to take them out like spilling the water and they get me with that all the time lol

A retic has always been my dream snake to own. Looks like I'll be getting one this summer!!!!

Shhhh!!!!! :p lol

When I first heard about 'tics back in the 90's, it was was when they were considered to have bad temperaments, were extremely hard to handle, and just a bad animal to own. About 15 years later when I started keeping again, I was extremely happy to see so many people say such good things about how great these animals are. There was always something about them back then that told me they were exceptional animals and they probably needed alot of handling and an understanding owner (like being able to correctly read the animal). I'm glad to hear I was right. Even better when I hear about how intelligent they are. I truly look forward to owning one. :)

@rogue628 When i first heard about retics and my buddy had got one i watched youtube videos on them and read feedback and it was all negative and then 3 months later i got convinced into getting one and i loved him and went about the handling as i did for all my other snakes and he was perfect just with the hugest feeding response i saw ever lol

When I was traveling from Dallas to Houston about 15 years ago, there was a huge snake facility I visited on the trip. I can't remember the name of it, but the guy had a tiger phase retic that was about 15-18 feet long, IIRC. After hearing so much negativity about them, I asked the guy if he'd get him out of his home to let me play with him. I was amazed at how docile he was. There was no aggression whatsoever. He would let me do anything to him without pulling away or anything. He was sooo curious! And would look me in the face with such an intelligence it was almost disturbing. It's like he knew so much about me just by watching me. I decided then that when I was more experienced in snakes, I would get a retic. Since I got back into keeping again almost a year ago (I had a few animals back in the 90's), I'm ready to take that step. I've been doing my homework. I know what I want and from whom. I'm going to hand pick him this summer. I'm really excited about it! :D

Retic seem to have a level of intelligence uncomporable to other snakes. Sure there are some snakes that are intelligent, but I really don't think anything comes close to a retic. I'm not the only person who thinks this.
The stigma of them being nasty and unhandleable came from WC snakes that are notorious for being temperamental and aggressive/defensive. Sure there are exceptions, but most WC snakes to this day still fit this.
