These are for sure my favorite king I own. Tarahumara or Chihuahua Mountain Kingsnake. This is a 2001 male and 2010 hold back female. Looking forward to breeding the 2010 female back to her dad (2001 male) next year. This may prove him and her both out to be hypomelanistic.

These are a little different than what John has. John has what they call in the hobby "Applegate Specials". They are L.p.pyromelana (AZ Mtn Kings), and these are L.knoblochi or L.p.knoblochi (Taraumara or Chihuahua Mtn Kings). They are a sub-species of what John has, well they used to be. That's a whole another story. The ones pictured are from Mojarachic in the Maguarichi Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico. Further south from where the "Applegate Specials" are from.
Typically the L.knoblochi have more bands/blotches and the bands do not reach the ventral as in L.p.pyromelana. L.knoblochi usually has a white stripe running along the sides, this stripe can be interupted with black or red blotches. as seen here.

In L.p.pyromelana the bands reach the ventral portion of the animal as seen here.

I hope this clarifies between the two sub-species of L.pyromelana.

Nice and yeah it does! I still say your stuff is comparable to what he has.

They are comparable, as they are sub-species. I was just clarifying the subtle differences between the two sub-species.

As with most hobbyists. I keep both sub species myself. I prefer seeing the variability in L.knoblochi, from red to orange, high black to pinners, high band count vs. low, etc... These can all come out of the same clutch so you just never know what will hatch. Here's a nice one with almost a full red head.

You are correct, that male I posted actually eats retired breeder mice. He is almost 5 foot and as big as round as a half dollar if not bigger.

Not all of them get that big, he is just an extreme example but 4 foot plus would be average.
