View Full Version : Tong feeding

So my sav Cassie is getting more and more tame. Usually when I feed her I use tongs and use them and she seems super docile and not very active when she eats. So today I just took 40 crickets and put them in there and I seen her hunt like a sav should. She was fast and dug through the leaf litter, at one point she had 5 leaves in her tiny mouth with one cricket, it's amazing that savs with there tongue can just find the cricket in there mouth and drop the leafs! Woah. So should I keep using tongs? Or release crickets in front of me and pet her? She always has plenty of food in her enclosure btw just when it's feeding time she gets lots at once. Thanks everyone :D
I think its probably a matter of preference, but I normally just release the prey into the enclosure so they get the exercise of hunting too. Save the 'treats' for the tongs maybe, or when you just want to work with her. I usually will only use my tongs when I am feeding crayfish. He loves them so will literally climb my arm/body/desk/whatever else happens to be in the way in his effort to get them. Almost thought he was going to climb on top of my head once when I tried to keep it away from him!
