I've had my carpet for about a month. He was supposedly about 8 months old when we got him. He weighs around 110g and has been eating a mouse hopper every week without problems. However, since we got him, he has only pooped once, and this was a couple weeks ago. The poop was pretty small too--about the size of a poop from one of my african greys (he poops about every 10 minutes--he is a pooper for sure haha). Just curious how often your carpets poop when they are this age/size? This is my first snake so I had no idea of what to expect. Is this pretty normal or should he be pooping more?

Feeding prey that small is why he isnt pooping, get him onto rats asap - around two to three times the girth of the snake. Carpets are monsters when it comes to eating and mine takes prey occassionally over three times his girth, i feed every 14 then 21 then 14 days :)

Yeah I'm trying to get ahold of some fuzzies. Hopefully tomorrow weekend at the show. If not I also found someone locally that raises rodents. Still hard for me to wrap my head around feeding him something that big. The hoppers are a bit bigger than his fattest part, but compared to his head/neck they are gigantic already. His neck is so much smaller than his lower body it barely seems possible to fit them as it is. I KNOW it's fine, but it's still hard to overcome what I feel with what I know. In any case I was already getting ready to get him switched to rats and something slightly larger.

what substrate are you keeping him? I sometimes can't find the poop because I keep all of my snakes on mulch.

Reptibark. Might be hidden but the first one I spotted from a mile away. Maybe my poop vision isn't as eagle sharp as I think it is. Always a possibility.

Yup, I concur with Rob about the size of the food. I don't use a feeding schedule with any of mine, but the size he's talking about sounds right for a young Carpet.

Found a local rat breeder. Got him on his first rat today. Some pups a bit bigger than hoppers. I also got some larger ones (recently weaned) since I think he will be ready to move up again soon. Happy about the rat breeder since I.can just swing by and pick up any size whenever. His rats were all impeccably housed and healthy.
