Help Identify This Snake

This is the only picture. A friend caught it yesterday. He lives in northeast Louisiana. He said he caught it near his house (he lives in the country). I know next to nothing about native species, sadly so I really have no clue.

Corn or rat snake. I can't tell if there's any color, but those are my guesses.
