Alright corn people...I need your help. I do not keep corns and honestly don't know much about them. My neighbor has a corn snake that has stopped eating and she asked me to come check it out. It is 2 years old, maybe a little older and has always ate no problems. It lives in a 40g, aspen bedding cool side 75 warm side 85 with a UTH that reads 87. She has had this corn since it was a baby and has always eaten no problem but has recently refused. It has been a month (March 16) and she is worried. Snake looks good to me (for how much i know about corns), isn't losing weight or anything the only thing she has noticed differently is it is stretching the length of the tank a lot where is didn't really do that before and is much more active.

My thoughts are wanting to breed??? Don't know though so anyone with suggestions I would appreciate. Thanks :)

Yep, we are well into it. 1 clutch laid and 1 gravid for me. I bet you anything that's why he won't eat. I have several males that won't eat for that reason.

Most corns do eat good, it's males and sometimes female can go off feed in breeding season.

Yeah it sounds like breeding behavior. My cal. King is off feed right now as well. At any given time no matter what time of day or night you will find him going back and forth stretching out the full length of his enclosure... He'll be ok he just needs a "hug" lol

The age of the snake makes me thing its recently matured and food isn't its priority.

You get charged for sexing snakes?????:shocked::shocked::shocked:

Our reptile shop does it for free as long as you let them know you are heading in :)

Yea, my reptiles shop usually does it for free too, but that might be cause I'm one of their regular and favorite customers.

I know how but I have no experience doing it I'd rather be shown the propper way as opposed to thinking I have it down and royally screw up or hurt my snakes... Lol

I would say it's probably in breeding mode, but don't let your guard down, as sometimes the snake is really sick, and waiting to find out later just adds to the situation. Is there any females around him, that he may be smelling? Also try feeding him a small meal, like a fuzzy, just to kick start his appetite, and also to see if maybe he regurges. If he does regurge then you know it's something that needs to be looked at. I am just thinking if there is no females around him, he should be eating. But then it could be instinctual, and like a built in clock.

I have an all male collection but they all still go into breed mode each year :)
