Someone said you could tell from a snakes tail if it is male or female. Here is a photo of Garys tail. He is a 4 year old corn snake and is about 4 foot long. Can anyone tell?
:crazy2:

A closer pic of the bottom scales would help, cause then I could see the vent. But just from that pic if I had to guess, I'd say female.

I thought males have a less gradual transition to the tail because of where their man stuff is?

Other way around, I can't tell with that guy though.

Well, the males will have a thicker tail right after the vent. Where females will be thinner giving it a less obvious taper. No bulge. Of course younger snakes are harder to tell visually. I just pop te tails. I've done it so much, I have it down to a science. However not all snakes are easy to sex. I have a pair of tri-color hogs that were very difficult to pop, and some grass snakes (Natrix natrix) were impossible to sex by popping. I had to probe them. Which brings me to a female grayband I have that I would have sworn was a male. The probe went in very deep! I contacted the guy I got them from and he assured me that she layed eggs for him before. She is currently gravid with at least 6 eggs, that I could count. So the lesson here is unless you see the hemi-penes it's never 100%, and for females it's never 100% till they lay eggs!

So you're telling me females have their man stuff there? Lol
