I got a buddy whos yellow rat is eating substrate (coco fiber) on purpose, big mouth fulls of it. I dont even know the answer to this, iv never seen anything like it. Does anyone have any info on why this snake may be doing this?
Thanks

the coco fiber has absorbed the smell of food.
This is why I take my snakes out of their cages to feed them.
Snakes react to smells.

If it is swallowing mouthfuls of coco fiber I wouldn't get to worked up to tell him as it will be dead soon.

as subtle as a brick through your living room window mate
you been taking lessons from mykee ;)
to the op
as said, the only thing i can think of is their some rat blood/guts spilled on the substrate
your friend could change his substrate to news paper, which is easily replaced when soiled
cheers shaun
