I remember keeping Pyro's crazy eaters!! Mice are like potato chips to them lol! They look so cool when they move too, like an illusion or something. I really like your taste in Kings lol, what species would you say is your favourite? Also, which species is your largest and smallest? Just curious, I kinda want to get a kingsnake someday!

I have many favorites but my favorites of all time and for the longest has been Lampropeltis leonis (thayeri). They are the most variable and unpredictable. You never know what is going to emerge from their eggs......

A close second is Mex Mex (lampropeltis mexicana mexicana). There are Black Phase, Granites, Hypoerythristics, Ultra Granites, partially stripes, classics but no double homozygotes yet.....Something I am definitely working on.....

Pyros have to be third on my list due to the fact that there are no double homozygotes yet and many morphs to cross...Applegate Specials, Aberrants, Sentz Hypos, BHB Pales, Hypoerythristics, Amels and High Whites.......

And then there's Ruthveni...
There are Stripes, Amels and Super Stripes but no Amel Super Stripes.
Plus there are 2 common locales (Amealco and Tapalpa) and one rare locale (Jalpan).
I like the classic lines and the morphs both with most kings....

Alterna are fun too, but very addictive, especially if you are a locality nut.....I have had many over the past 20 years but currently I only keep 2 localities, but I like the Hypos, Aneries and Ghosts too....All mainly Black Gap localities....

Ruthveni get the largest out of all of the ones I mentioned.....I have Amealcos that are over 4 feet......Thayeri and Mex Mex rarely get over 3 feet......but some males do.
Knoblochi get large too....Floridana, Easterns, Goini and some california kings reach 5 to 6+ feet.....

Wow lots of great info, thank you! I really like the Thayeri too, the sheer variability in them is astounding really. I'd end up with too many I like though and never end up selling any if I bred them though :D
The Mex Mex you showed were also really nice, I love the black phase! Is that a locality, codom or recessive gene?
The ruthveni are really nice as well, they just don't catch my eye as much for some reason.
I really like the Goins Kingsnakes as well, I saw a blaze for sale one time that I really regret not getting as I've never seen one like it ever after that. I still find it funny that the males get larger in most of these snakes, Just seems backwards lol.
I don't really have room for any more snakes right now, but I really do hope to get a kind snake sometime, especially after these photo's you've shared! Thanks for the quick lesson, I'm sure I'll be asking you more questions in the future.

The Black Gene & Granite Gene with mex mex are neither codom or recessive.
They are both line bred traits. The black phase is a naturally occurring line bred trait.....The granites and ultra granites are captive line bred phenotypes.

The Hypoerythristic gene seems to be acting codominant but since it is rather new in the hobby there will be more breedings to prove it out.....
