Hi allhttp://www.lilwaynehq.com/forums/images/smilies/wave.gif
Some of you have probably answered this question before, but help me out for the sake of http://i1216.photobucket.com/albums/dd364/CBLsDad/Smileys/SpotSmileySmall.png!
I use a thermostat made by Zilla: (http://www.zilla-rules.com/products/specialty-equipment/temperature-controller.htm)

In a Boaphile enclosure (http://www.boaphileplastics.com/arborealcages.html):

I use a RHP in the back right corner (on the ceiling) with a UTH below that(under the enclosure), aspen as a substrate.
*I need help keeping the probe in place, the thermostat came with a suction cup, but it doesn't work with the PVC (i don't think). I understand that I should be avoiding tape (I'm tempted to use gorilla tape but won't), so how should i keep it in place??:unhappy:
*I don't want to keep the probe directly on the floor, because I don't want it to be close enough to the UTH to throw off the temps.
Let me know your suggestions, thanks in advance!

Take a thumb tack and stick it through the suction cup into the PVC :)

Spot's a pretty big climber, I'd be afraid to do that because I could see him trying to climb on the thumb tack, and pulling it off of the PVC.

Hmm then if you want it to be a permenat solution I would recomend taking a drill and screwing a screw through it all the way. You can even wrap the extra around the unit itself and this would come undone or harm your snake!

The tack seems like a bad idea.
@ op
Screw a piece a piece of 2" sq plywood to keep it off the floor. Then attach your probe to the plywood.

Or crazy glue it! But is that a hazard to snakes? It dries fast?

idea: Hot glue the probe suction cup to the top of one of those hides, and put that water dish on top of the hide as well to hold it in place.
Thoughts?

Hmm I think hot glue would keep them in place just fine

hot glue to hold the probe in place on the hide, the water dish to keep the hide itself in place.

Umm I don't know anything about snakes but would the water dish be good on the ground?

I would worry about the uth getting too hot if the probe is on top of a hide.

On top of a hide located in the hot side, above the uth.

I understand that but that looks to be about four inches above the uth. You will also be getting a reading from the Rhp. Is the uth and Rhp womas two separate thermostats?

correct, it would be at least four inches above you UTH, maybe more. It would be sitting above the UTH and below the RHP. The UTH and RHP are both hooked to the same thermostat.

I use aquarium silicone and place the probe down and the wire siliconed across the bottom and up the back corner.

My guess is that you would get your reading only from the Rhp. The ground temp will probably not affect the probe that far off the ground and on top of the hide. I would be worries about the uth because in reality that probe will not have be regulating it very well.

should i just lay the probe on top of the aspen, and stick it in the back corner?

i use the little cable clips you can buy for securing telephone cable in position
they come with a little panel pin nail,i just replace the nail, with a small self tapping screw
put the probe cable into the clip, then screw the clip into the position you require it to be in
i use 1 cermaic bulb, bulb guard and thermostat in each tank
imo theres no need for multipule heat sources mate
you can see how i position the heat source in this picture,i place the heat probes,4 to 6 inch back towards the cool side,6 to 8 inches below the bottom of where the heat guard stops

i've moved all my probes since that picture was taken.i will try and get some pic's of there new positions for you
they are attatched to the back wall,5 inch towards the cool side, from the heat guard,6 inches down, from the level of the bottom of the heat guard
cheers shaun

Shaun can you pm me some specific pics of your heat bulb setup? I want to do that in my enclosure.

I am not a fan of permanent probe attachment like gluing. Sometimes things change, and probes must be moved.
That said, if a probe is accidentally/unknowingly moved, the results can be disastrous. As in heated death disaster.
We usually secure probes with zip ties. Drill a hole on either side of the probe, loop zip tie through, and secure.
Probe security is especially important when securing incubator probes. I learned that lesson after a couple of accidents of a probe falling out of an incubator, or being snagged out. Eggs do not hatch at 130F.

thanks for the advice everyone!
shaun that setup you've got going is awesome.
im planning on keeping a bit of extra substrate in the corner and placing the probe on top of the substrate. i'll run the wire under the substrate . If i need to make adjustments i'll hot glue a suction cup onto the hide back there and use that
pics after i setup on friday.
