Post Shed Photo Shoot

So the week before last everyone got fed bigger meals, Brood my oldest ball got moved up to Medium rats and Pearl and Anomander got moved up to hoppers. No surprise that everyone promptly went into shed, a long terrible week and a bit of everyone being untouchable nearly drove me bonkers. Finally today everyone shed, and 2 out of 3 pooped!

The weights and ages stand now at

Brood, Few months shy of two years old and 1005 grams

Pearl, 7 months old and 217 grams ( He is being moved up again to weaned as hoppers did nothing for him, I should have moved him to hoppers a very long time ago but I never had to up a meal before and fretted a lot)

Finally Anomander is 11 months and 251 grams.

Brady and Lady Bug, he seems to be a favorite! He is inbetween his dark and light phase in those pictures, in his light he is a really light grey and his belly and half his sides is white, its amazing!

GunGirl :D Brood is my shy guy and usually isn't a fan of pictures, but he was posing quite well for me last night. I'm so glad he took the medium rat okay and is finally getting some of the weight on him that he needs, I've only had him for about a year of his life and the person who had him before me didn't feed him as often as he should have as he was very small when I got him. He is getting to be a big boy now though!

He didn't really when I first got him, it was just a slight shake when feeding, but as he got older its worse. When he is feeding he shakes very rapidly and if he is out and I put him down to crawl or if Mitch holds him he gets nervous and he ends up shaking while moving but its not as bad when feeding. Feeding is a very rapid almost vibrating like motion that just throws off his whole strike where as when he is nervous its more of a slow pronounced shake that just leads to him bumping into things or swaying, he also has a habit of just flipping back over himself instead of moving to the side.

He is my baby and i'm super protective of him so when he is out he is usually always with me since he is more comfortable, but as I have been finding if he is out with Pearl he usually follows him around and he doesn't shake, it sort of reminds me of a blind person with a guide dog since Brood follows while always keeping contact, stops when he stops and get confused if Pearl doubles back.

I know a lot of people say it doesn't seem to really affect them or cause them pain but Brood always tugs at my heart strings, I really think that if he had been born something else, without the wobble he would be a much more outgoing animal like Pearl but because of it he really is just a ball of nerves. I've been working with him though taking him out and sitting with him, then moving away but not far so he has to move to me and he has been getting better at least as far as being afraid of everything which in turn reduces the wobble. Not much I can do with feeding though =(

Wow.. :( that really sucks. I would always worry about him. I wish there was a way to breed these stunning snakes without that issue. I hate to want one and support the breeding of a neurological problem. I don't think it's fair to them. Well I guess I will just have to see a bunch of pictures of Brood over the next few years then :D

It really is a hard thing just emotionally, I love him but I feel so bad for him. I know a lot of people breeding them for bees and such things and I find so many of them end up like normals and not wanted do to either particularly bad wobbles or even just people not wanting to deal with that type of thing.

Brood himself though has helped many people I know that where scared of snake to get over the fear, they see he is just as scared of them and ends up looking like a sad little puppy in their eyes. My mother adores him, and she hated snakes with a passion before I got him. When she is up and with him she is in complete mother mode and acts like she would with an infant, cooing him and moving very slow, always asking if he is comfortable.

The way I look at it, I didn't ask for him to be born, and when I found him he was unwanted and looking to be sold, back home there isn't much for reptile advocates and not a lot of people know much about them. As much as he breaks my heart sometimes I wouldn't trade him for the world and I like to think that I saved him from someone who might not have been as sensitive to his condition.

I think if I was to find one up for rescuing or in bad shape I would happily save it. I just wouldn't purchase from a breeder. I think you did the right thing by taking him in and I think your mom is too funny. :)

Honestly I'm waiting for the day she wants her own, its amazing how much people can change when they conquer their fears!

And I think that would be an awesome idea! I wish there were more people who consider adoption or rescuing! I don't have the space right now to take in any, and I bought Pearl and Anomander from breeders due to not having the conditions to really take on a sick animal, if I am going to I want to make sure I have the space and the money to be able to provide all the extra medical requirements that they can have the best possible recovery, right now I just can't do that but someday I will!

I only have 1 rescue right now and he is doing fabulous. It's my GTP Blitz...I keep my eyes open for others but I am not willing to pay a ridiculous fee like most people ask for a sick animal.

That really is a worst part, people who know nothing not realizing how sick their animal is and just wanting money instead of helping the animal get better, its really sad.

Haha gotta love them lol. Anomander gets pissy when its close to feeding day, never goes to bit just gets in his pissy mode, I poke him in the nose and he is like "oh no food, take me out then!"
