What is the thing with wire?

That could hurt him.

IDK the lady had it on there. I think it was to held prevent him from burning himself, but the thing is he can still crawl inside it and wrap around the bulb. I think it's fine though. There are no sharp points and we put a lid thing over the front so he can't crawl in to touch the hot bulb and get burned

right you are, and snakes burn themselves from things like this all the time. if i were you id get that light on top of the enclosure above a hole guarded by a screen ASAP. or familiarize yourself with what a RHP (radiant heat panel) (http://www.reptilebasics.com/rbi-radiant-heat-panels) is.

that aside, nice snake & congrats!

Yea I'm not keeping him in this tank for long. I'm on vacation in florida right now and bought him here. I'll be home in a week and I'm going to set up a 30 gallon for him with lights that hang above the tank so he can't burn himself.

Why not switch him to a UTH instead? I'm afraid that bulb could burn him...

Like I said before, there isn't much I can do now, but as soon as I get home I'm going to put him in a tank with a UTH and bulbs that hang above the tank

I'd keep the cage and modify it once you got home rather than going to an aquarium.

Don't use a tank and don't use bulbs. The cage he is in now will work fine as long as you take out the bulb and you add a Radiant heat panel in its place.

This solves the issue. Nice looking snake. I would seal those edges and use that tank. It looks like it could really work.

The bulb is a little strange being in the middle rather than at one end, wouldnt of thought it would provide a gradient tbh :)

There's nothing wrong with using a bulb as long as its guarded... Also if he's quite thick bodied I wouldn't use a UTH as when they lie on it they can cause thermal blocking and still burn x
