Very nice I wish I could take Crowley out when it's warm but lately every time we open his tub to spot clean or give water or spray he tries to bite striking all over the place

thanks guys, yea really cant recomnmend these guys enough. they got so much personality...

i had one like that lady bug but i found they are very easy to manipulate, if you can keep their attention focused you can do what you want usually. i used to just wave one hand around to catch the attention of the snake, then hold it kinda within striking distance while using the other hand to work the snake, if the snake turned to see whats touching him i just moved the free hand closer to catch its attention again. they are so alert with the heat pits sensing the moving hand they dont bother with the one picking them up.

i found this worked well with my big female but it is far from fool proof lol...

Yea he's nuts lol we're working with him slowly since he stresses so much

yea we do hahah

he doesnt mind being touched he just doesnt like being lifted

it will probobly be due to the fact of feeling unsupported, even my big common boa, who is the softest snake i own will thrash about like a mad man if i dont pick him up right.

i dont know how big yours is but wit my big female i used to distract her with one hand as i mentioned before then use the other to slide in underneath through the coils so when you lift they tighten up onto you kinda without realising it then your a big warm perch lol.

the best tiome to try is when they are on the ground, trying to get these guys off perches is stressful for everyone involved lol.

heres a couple of pics of the big girl, she was a good 6-7ft easy and reasonably calm, only ever got me once and i still kick myself for parting with her!

she's absolutely stunning he's a yearling maybe 2-3ft he is thick enough to take hoppers. when I went to give him his morning spray he gave me a warning hiss. So I nudged him with my finger and saw his head pop up he is definitely living up to his name sake lol

sadly thats all i have of her, on the lookout for another bright one but they are few and far between over here unfortunately...

and lady bug he sounds like your typical atb. your best bet is just show no fear, open tank, dont stop and admire just go straight in no messin about and just grab him, gently of course, and pull him out before he knows whats happening. as soon as you hesitate they have the upper hand and you prob will get tagged.

if you do manage to get him out, keep at arms length. these guys have a very big strike range and your warm breath makes a nice big target, that wee black baby of mine has near got me on the nose a couple of times lol...

Too bad you're across the pond Crowley has amazing colouration blood red with black diamonds and stripes he hasnt been sexed yet but we're thinking male I've had some offer a breed loan but its still up in the air if I will breed him out

ding ding

just seen your thread on crowley and my my isnt he gorgeous. hes an absolute smasher you have there, i love the red in these guys, makes them look proper evil.

i would be very weary of lending stuff out tho unless you can fully trust where its going. and with atb's being polymorphic there is no garauntee that he will pass on his colours to the young. tis a big risk!

lady_bug87
03-27-12, 09:56 AM
That's why I've turned the offers down,

he definitely is living up to his name sake i may get him a mate and try my hand at breeding him

ding ding

personally i wouldnt unless i really knew the person, just too many things to worry about.

yea go for it like, im hoping i have a pair as i wana have a crack at breeding myself. they are very easy to breed from what im told. mine are still too small to sex but both are around the same age, give or take a month or so and have ate the same since i have had them but there is a very noticable difference in size between the two so hopefully thats a good sign.

Thanks for sharing. I had to double check to make sure you weren't someone I know locally that has some very similar ATBs.
