So I recently aquired a rough green. I have heard they are hard to keep and have done research. I have the cage painted on on side, have tons of places for the snake to climb and hide. Jade as we are calling 'her' doesn't seem as shy as I thought she would. However I have been told by Wayne that they need spiders because spiders have enzymes that crickets do not. I have also read that they need some soft bodied prey items because if I only feed crickets and spider the snake will start to throw up the exo skeleton. Anyway I thought this belonged in the food section...
Does anyone know how to catch spiders for her to eat? Rough greens are native to here (South Carolina) so I know that the spiders around her are the right ones excluding the yellow garden spider (size/tough exoskeleton) Black widow, and brown recluse. I don't know how to find spiders so I am having some issue with this.
I was told by 2 care sheets that gut loaded crickets and meal worms should make up the difference but I would rather spiders if anyone can give me some spider catching tips?
Also I know daddy longlegs are not spider (vegitarian and classified differently) but would these have the same missing enzyme? What enzyme/nutrient is she missing with crickets? would night crawlers be a good soft body prey if they were small or in pieces?
Any help would be great and thank you all so much in advance. Also she is eating. She has fed 3 times since we got her a week and a half ago. She doesn't appear shy or easily stressed but we are still trying to keep the handling down until we have had her long enough to know how much is too much and we have her eating spiders.
