Hi I'm Nick, own 2 water dragons and am now looking into getting a snake. I'm surprised and happy to see such a large and great community here. Can't wait to learn some new things and hopefully be able to lend what little knowledge I have as well.

G'day and welcome...

Check pics of snakes that you like on google, somebody on here will know something about them to be able to help you out. There's a whole bunch of diverse keepers in this forum.

Thanks everyone... I do like the Carpet Pythons. I have actually been looking at a few different snakes(Carpet Python, Blood Python, Rainbow Boa). Managed to get a picture today. Nothing special as I am not a photographer and the picture was taken on my phone. They are still pretty young. They get along well and it has taken me a while but they don't mind being handled. They eat like monsters.

In almost 25 years, I've never recommended a Blood Python to anyone, and I'd certainly never recommend one as a first snake. I can, however, recommend Rainbow Boas and Royal Pythons as first snakes.

A lot of it is about personal taste, but there are some things that just don't make sense for a first snake (e.g. Bloods, Anaconda, Burmese or Retics just to name a few). I can tell you that Antaresia would also make great first snakes - they have all the characteristics of a larger Python without any of the hassle and they're absolutely full of personality :)
