In around 3 weeks I'm buying her p an 8x4 :))) that can come apart into 4 sections and will allow for 2 ft of substrate before the window :) she is going to love it!!! ( in the summer time I move 2 hours away with my dad to work! This is my last summer for working there tho :)

Bradyloach
03-19-12, 11:26 AM
Umm I'm gonna put hooks in th ceiling of it! At that petstore they don't use heat lamps for anything.... They just have heating pads the savs look terrible and the peach throat is in a whole wired cage... The guy as been raising reptiles his whole life but come on guy your sav has crusted eyes and just sits in his cage all day his 30 gallon tank

Like the guy is a respectable breeder but he keeps his savs in fish tanks and feeds them veggies and dog food? Like grr he has great deals and is super nice that's why I do business with him, that's the only reason why
alessia55
03-19-12, 11:35 AM
Brady have you talked to them about the proper care of their lizards and about improving the quality of life for those animals? Or maybe just leaving a printed out care sheet on their cages anonymously...? :hmm:
BarelyBreathing
03-19-12, 11:37 AM
I'd do that. The guys at the reptile store near me are excellent when it comes to taking advice on how to care for animals.
Bradyloach
03-19-12, 11:40 AM
Umm I can't screw up my deals, he gives me like percent off crickets and meal worms, and will buy my dubia. But I'll bring it up in a professional matter and sit down with him with savannahmonitor.org printed out and I will give it to him
BarelyBreathing
03-19-12, 11:52 AM
Just bring it up in a "hey, did you know?" type way. It may work if you say something like "I've been researching my butt off, and I found this new information. I figured you'd want to hear it because you have savannah monitors, too". Sound excited, not criticizing.
Gungirl
03-19-12, 12:09 PM
No matter what "deals" you get it is not ok to allow the animals to be treated poorly. I would never let someone make money off me if they are not taking proper care of their animals.

THis!! And if they dont listen then get animal control involved. No deals are worth animals suffering

Yah, I'll go in there next time and tell him, I've just thought it through, it's not worth it....

This is the best way to do it, hands down. Be excited, and emphasize that you want what's best for his animals too. Make it sound like you agree with his end goal (having healthy animals) and that you have new information that helps get there!
Umm I can't screw up my deals, he gives me like percent off crickets and meal worms, and will buy my dubia. But I'll bring it up in a professional matter and sit down with him with savannahmonitor.org printed out and I will give it to him
Kat responded the way I would:

The discounts you're getting are nowhere near as important as the animals' suffering.

So this is cassie! she is making so much progress. this is me picking her up. I usually use 2 hands but i had to use 1 because i was holding the camera.
Watch how calm she is, no hissing or tail whipping instead she goes right back up to her basking spot and looks at me. what a great sav.

This is another one, She was in her burrow because i scared her changing her water dish, coming into the room. but as soon as i sprayed the water bottle she came out curious. The mister is a great way to get her to come to you

She looked a bit nervous in the beginning, but I'm going to assume it was because she didn't feel supported when you lifted her. As soon as you put her on her lap, she calmed right down.
Great progress!
Bradyloach
03-28-12, 11:12 AM
how should i pick her up? any tips ?:)

Lay your hand down flat and encourage her to walk up onto your arm. Then support her with your other arm as you bring your arm closer towards your body.
Bradyloach
03-28-12, 01:15 PM
okay tomorrow i will do that! umm the guy gave me the wrong quote on the enclosure. its not 800 its 1200. but thats a pretty good price i guess for an enclosure made out of pvc

Bradyloach

Bradyloach
03-28-12, 01:38 PM
thanks you answered in pm :D umm ive decided to go with a basking rock instead of a reyes stack. im going to go find a 200 pound huge rock. if i put the rock in there would i have to sink in right to the bottom so she wont die digging under it?
BarelyBreathing
03-28-12, 01:45 PM

So I'm in Guelph Ontario, been here since Thursday and My mom is watching Cassie. So she calls me and says I got a great deal on worms. She got 800 for 45 dollars that's insane! Also she said Cass was right up on the glass and my dad picked her up and she didn't hiss or tail whip. Or even shut her eyes, she was licking everywere just exploring. She asked me if I was mad I said deff not she's making a lot of progress it's great.

Well boys and girls, I just got back from my gfs. Cassie is so relaxed now and she is moving all over her enclosure side to side. She took all the leaf litter and shoved it in her burrow had to dig some out, and my mom didn't know what lizard poop looked like so she only cleaned out what she thought was poop so there was around 9 of them just waiting for me, peeeeee yewwww it smells, around 5 days my mom watched them and she is like a little puppy? She now comes to the glass everytime someone is at it. Wow she's my little puppy, but I did get tail whipped haha I went in the cage so eager to pet her and boom tail whipped, but I picked her up and she was so relaxed
