Rabbits vs Chickens

Is it fine to feed burms and retics chickens instead of rabbits? not sure if I created this thread before.. just fed my burm his first quail yesterday, seemed like he loved it and they're way cheaper than rats!

Wait until he craps out that quail. You'll be right back to rats or rabbits. The stench is horrible.

I tried giving him f/t rabbits before.. only ate them the first week I offered him one.. after that he didn't want anything to do with them.

Then try it. If he eats it be prepared for something "different" than with rodents. If the smell/consistancy doesn't bother you. Great . I know some people aren't fans of foul for reasons orher than the one I'm talking about but was in a pet shop when their IJ let go after a couple quail feedings and I would take a huge beardie crap ober that any day. It was nasty and soft. That did mine in for ever eating quail. Never !!!

I feed chicks occasionally to my carpets and I plan to get some bigger quail for my adult girls. The poo isn't bad as long as its just an a every now and then thing. I try to feed as many things as possible to my guys to give them a varied diet. But thats just what I do. If memory serves me right, I'm pretty sure whole rabbits are one of the best if not the best prey you can give to a large constrictor because they are a lot leaner and don't have as much fat content. So if it was me I would use rats and rabbits as a staple and just supplement with fowl.

i wondered the same thing. chickens (so i have heard) have a high fat content and that breeders use them to put weight on females before the breeding season and yes i have also repeatedly heard that it will make ur snakes poop smell worse than what it already does. its not so bad when they r little but when they start taking human sized poops (sometimes bigger) it will smell up a room. rabbits on the other hand have more protein in them and less fat. so if you can i would definitely go with the rabbits. try finding a livestock auction near you rabbits will probably b cheaper there.

You have to be very careful with chickens. They're filthy animals and they're prone to carrying all sort of parasites and diseases. Wherever possible it's best to avoid them, and as Terranaut mentioned, they're pretty messy coming out the other end.
