Who all here keeps them? I've been looking into a carpet of some sort and these keep popping up as a reasonably priced alternative that attains some decent size. I would like to hear your stories about you and your Bredli's. I wasn't overly impressed with the colors on the first ones that I saw in person, but I see more and more lately that impress me and I'm wondering if maybe they're not all too bad. I guess I'm looking for the opinions as to which you prefer, carpets (specifically coastal, jungle, or IJ) or bredlis and why.

I don't think Bredli's are carpet pythons at all...

I know they're not, but they're similar enough for what I want.

I'll be honest, what I REALLY want is a Tanimbar scrub, but they're just so hard to come by.

Tanimbars are amazing, somewhat more common up here somehow. a few breeders working them I guess.
I found the bredli's to be much more robust, heavier and thicker. Their head is way different then a carpet, I find it more similar to a GTP. By the time I got them out of the cage too, they generally calmed down and more or less just slowly tried to get away... But they were oddballs of the bredli world, so can't take much out of that. They are apparently very docile snakes for the most part, and their colours are awesome! Really cool eye's too.
Have you tried Blake Bauer or Tom Keogan about the Tanimbars though? They might know where to find some at least. I've spoken to both of them now, they are great python breeders and easy to talk to. I'd go for a tanimbar before a bredli though, they seem far more exciting.

Scrubs are a pretty serious snake regardless of size...

My fav specimen of the carpet world are the pure granite IJs, because the colors are beautiful and imo the IJs have the most relaxed dispositions of the carpet world.

If I wanted a carpet, but couldn't get a granite due to pricing, i'd look around for a tame jag with the right colors, or just a good looking tame jungle

Can't go wrong with a jag sib, and some breeders just give them away lol... http://i735.photobucket.com/albums/ww355/Inugohan/Reptiles/Male%20Jaguar%20Sibling/IMG_0410.jpg
I mean come on, if this was a ball python... But seriously, go for the scrubs if you can, they are amazing. I'd love a barneck scrub one day, or even a Mol. Carpets are fun in the meantime though!

My personal favorite are jungles, they get a reasonable size but not too big, and I just like the yellows.

What? Of coarse they are. All i have to say is everyone that see my Bredli in person falls in love with her. I have more people ask to hold her than all my other snake put together. Out of my Carpets she the mellows and the only one never to bite me or anyone else. The only time she shows any sign of aggression is when she smells food.

Bredli are a under rate Carpet that are just true amazing snakes. Shanyboy can back me up on this as he use to own some. They say a picture is worth a 1,000 words so i'll let the pictures do the talking.

I'm pretty sure Bredli's aren't even classified as morelia spilota any more, plus look at their head... The body shape is different as an adult too. I don't feel they are carpet pythons, they are much more scrub python like. That's not just including the demons I got to work with either.

After some research i found out the are their own spices. They aren't Carpets which in my book makes them even cooler. They are so unique they been given their own classification. So calling them Carpets is misleading.
Here's one of the site i found showing their classification.

Centralian Carpet Python (Morelia spilota bredli) (http://www.ozanimals.com/Reptile/Centralian-Carpet-Python/Morelia/spilota%20bredli.html)

Also this.
The first description of Morelia spilota was by Lacépède (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bernard_Germain_de_Lac%C3%A9p%C3%A8de) (1804), who placed it in the genus Coluber (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coluber) as Coluber spilotus. The species has since been described by various authors as containing a number of subspecies and hybrids, these have also been known by various informal names.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-Cogger-2)[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-NRDB-10) The attempted arrangement of taxa in this, and other, Australasian Pythonidae has produced numerous synonyms. The discrete and roaming habits of this species have produced a low number of recorded specimens, giving inadequate sample numbers to support descriptions of a taxon's morphology.[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-DSE-6) This is the case with proposed names which are sometimes cited, such as the Papuan Morelia spilota harrisoni (Hoser (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raymond_Hoser)),[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-11) despite being unaccepted or invalid.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-Wuster-12) Common names are regional variants of Carpet and Diamond Python, or Snake.[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-Meh87-13)[15] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-Dit33-14) The database ITIS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ITIS) lists six subspecies with valid names,[1] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota#cite_note-ITIS-0) these may be summarised as follows:
Morelia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_%28genus%29) Gray, 1842 (Pythonidae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pythonidae)) Morelia amethistina (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_amethistina) (Schneider, 1801)Morelia boeleni (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_boeleni) (Brongersma, 1953)Morelia bredli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_bredli) (Gow, 1981)Morelia carinata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_carinata) (Smith, 1981)Morelia oenpelliensis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_oenpelliensis) (Gow, 1977)Morelia spilota (Lacépède, 1804) Morelia spilota cheynei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_cheynei)Morelia spilota imbricata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_imbricata)Morelia spilota mcdowelli (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_mcdowelli)Morelia spilota metcalfei (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_metcalfei)Morelia spilota spilota (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_spilota)Morelia spilota variegata (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_spilota_variegata) Morelia viridis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morelia_viridis) (Schlegel, 1872)

Yup yup, they are no carpet python! The Hypo Bredli Variety are coming into availabilty in the US soon, as well as a new possible morph called the freckled bredli. Very cool snakes, and very unique morelia! I Really like they're heads myself, very scrub like but with carpet python patterning. Doesn't get much better then that!

Don't keep them but I have a plethora of mates that do....

They act like any other "carpet".... more like an overgrown red JCP in their nature.

They are very smooth to the touch as their scales are smaller than other Morelias.

Big heads that pack quite a wallop...

They do best in a full arboreal set up 5 foot high by two foot deep by three foot wide if you have the space or a two foot wide if you dont.

If you want them to keep that deep red... provide them with UVB.

Apart from that... a "carpet" is a "carpet" is a "carpet"...
