I have a sub adult female who really is too small to be gravid, yet here she is, unbred and gravid, probably egg bound. She's fairly weak, too. I gave her some liquid calcium, but she hasn't touched her food. Tips?

I would ask Hedy if I was in that situation. What kind of snake?

She's a leopard gecko. That's why I posted this in the leopard gecko section. :p

Its a calcium supplement given to leopard geckos, its supposed to be part of their diet I think. Its for their bones

Gee, I don't know you could try a multivitamin powder/calium carbonate mix, according to this manual I have on leopard geckos.

That's what the Calcium+ is, it's a calcium/multivitamin powder.

lethargy, loss of appetite, bloated stomach, depression, non-responsiveness, weakness, straining (to lay eggs)- these are all normal symptoms in leopard Geckos that are gravid. from my understanding just set up a proper place for her to relax and lay the eggs. She will either choose to lay them or reabsorb them. I have a friend that used to breed them and she said 98% of the time an un-bred female will reabsorb the eggs over a period of a a week or 2.

Thanks, Kat. That's reassuring.

unbred and gravid
Hows that possible? Excuse my naivete but is there something else I need to know?

Just curious.
Geckos are able to produce eggs even when they are not actively breeding. Usually when they do the body just re-absorbs them and there is no problems.

Ok I understand now. I know that sounded like a noob question but I dont have any experience with geckos. Tyvm for filling me in. :)
No problem, I think there are many lizards who are capable of this. I know bearded dragons, and savs do as well. They on the other hand need lay boxes to get rid of them though, it could be a serious problem that can kill them.

Most lizards, in fact, when healthy, will produce eggs even when they haven't been bred. Of course, they are infertile. Then again, parthenogenesis has been documented in several species.

I find this very informative and interesting even if I dont plan on keeping lizards. Again, tyvm.
I know you are always gonna come around and "clean" up my posts hahaha.
I tend to ramble and bamble where you are more "scientific" about things.

Reese Witherspoon passed her egg last night. She layed it next to her humid hide. It was very, very hard.

I need to change a few names around. It turns out that Dakota Fanning and Kate Hudson are males, so now the unnamed SHTCT became Kate Hudson and the designer became Dakota Fanning. Now the boys need new names.
