I am not sure what is going on with Gary - my 4 year old corn snake. He has always been very timid. He usually spends most of his time in his hide, and comes out occasionally to lie on his heat pad. On Sunday I went to feed him and he wouldn't take his food. He was pushing past the rat to try and get out his viv. I thought he might need to poo - which he did. After putting him back in his viv he just wouldn't settle. He still hasn't eaten and has now taken to rambling around his viv, climbing the walls, digging down through the flooring (which he has never ever done before). Not sure what is going on with him. Any suggestions?

One thing you can do is double-check your temperatures to make sure everything is the same on your end at least. Offering food can stress snakes out, so as long as your temps are fine i'd leave him alone for a week (aside from filling the water dish & cleaning poo if necessary) then try offering again.

Its spring, he wants some snakey love!! My adult missed last two feeds and has been cruising constantly for about a month, yesterday was his first feed since january

It might be because it's breeding season. Also, when you said he "comes out occasionally to lie on his heat pad" do you mean there is no hide over the heat pad? It'll help him feel more comfortable if he has hides on both sides of his enclosure. :)

My guy is like that. He hasn't been interested in food for awhile.

All my snakes are male but they still fo through the not eating, cruising for a mate mode. They dont need to smell a female, they will look anyway :)

Thank you to everyone for your advise. There isn't any female near him but he is acting very strange. Also, because he has been digging, his month is really dirty and it is driving me mad. LOL. How do I clean it or shall I just leave him to deal with it?

What is it dirty with? What kind of substrate does he have? There's no need to "clean" him unless he slithered through his own feces. He'll be fine ;)

His face is dirty because he has been burrowing in his viv. The substrate in his viv is coconut shells.

It will go on into spring, my guy seems to have stopped now and ate this week but he started his patrolling in early january.
