Just a few more below. In the last one you'll notice how yellow her belly is. In fact, the one time she's shed for me, the aged was YELLOW! Does that mean anything? Somethin' good like, she's gonna have stunning color as she grows?

What's that?

Strutter769
04-07-12, 05:26 PM
That means that Kyle's male would breed with one of my females, and we would strike a deal for half the litter, cash, both, or whatever we agree to.

Never mind. I forgot you have a male. That wouldn't work out so well. Although I do have a few Brazilian Babes.

I thought so too. Not sure, but even if he is, I don't think that makes him (or any double dot babies) any more valuable.

I got it and then you said never mind you have a male too... Sorry, i'm easily confused

Casanova is a male. In order to strike a breeding agreement, you need a male and a female. Kyle's BRB is a male, so he can't breed with Casanova. So, we can't make that deal.

Sure, we can work that out. No earlier than 2014 though. She's my second oldest and is a beautiful deep red! That'll only get better as she matures.

didn't we already agree to this? Yes, when the time comes I'm more than willing to do this. He's a slow grower however so it might be a year longer than usual.

Strutter769

I was thinking with Casanova, but that wouldn't really work. Got a little ahead of myself there.

Yes! We did plan that quite some time ago. I have not forgotten. I'm trying right now to determine what age my Mad. Ground Boas need to be to breed.

The more digging I do the more I find that age is not the only deciding factor, size plays a major role as well.

People say an animal should be a certain age befofe they breed, but what they fail to address if they have a slow grower like I think Nero (my brb) is then he may need an extra year or two before he can produce viable offspring. Females its even scarier imo, if theyre not big enough and still breed they may wind up egg bound and die.

On the flip side if you go by weight you have the potential to have overweight animals that have been powerfed and either can't produce the sex cells necessary to reproduce, or can't produce viable offspring because theyre so young. I've read reports of young males knocking up a female only to have a 0f% hatch rate and the female was a proven and reliable breeder. Vice versa as well.

Interesting. What kind of scale do you use? Just a regular kitchen scale or something?

Should I be worried about weight now?

I know for corns the recommendation is 3yrs old, 3 foot long and 300g as a minimum - this is a good starting point as it covers all bases :)

yup, picked it up at walmart for like 20 bucks.
Not really, its just a nice indicator about general health of an animal, but I'm not sure its 100% reliable because as you saw in my thread about Nero, its dependent on a number of things, just like your and my weight. When we last ate, when we last defecated, etc. etc.

Those would be beautiful orange babies; however, Lucretia will first get to make some beautiful Pearls with Oenomaus. Then, the next breeding can be with Casanova. :-)
