hI sSNAKESs...
I'm new to this site and a bit confused on what I should write but I joined this site after catching a little scorpion in my bathtub. These scorpions are very scarce in my region here in South Africa, but I decided to surf the net and find out what I could feed it till it grew strong enough to look after itself. I love snakes and am fascinated by them. My sister was a proud snake owner and sold her snake. I would like to be in contact with people who are proud snake owners and maybe get one of my own one day.
Now I am looking after Hooki till Hooki is strong then I'll let him/her out in a safe breeding ground where he/she can try and repopulate their scarce little population.
Kind regards,
the Sorpion mommy(for now at least!):smug::smug:

For the most part I think Scorpion's are insectivores.. Crickets, Roaches, Mealworms

Luckily I live in the region of a large South African university with reptile; arachnid and insect scientists, professors and owners. I asked one of my BSC friends what I should do, he told me to hand it over to the professor of the department of entomology, but considering that it loves the food that I feed it and the way I look after it, I fell inlove with it and decided that I will look after it for now. In South Africa we have shongololos. These are like centepedes except they aren't as venemouse but they give off a strange odour.I decided to use a bunch of different insects e.tc to see which attracted Hooki the most. Funny enough, s/he was attracted to the shongololo. I actually stole the shongololo from ants that were busy devouring it. I crushed off the section being eaten by the ants and crushed its hard shell open so that the white could ooze out since Hooki is far too delicate and fragile to even try and break open the hard shell. Hooki is doing fine. I built it a little stone cave from some ntural and damp rock that exists here and Hooki is nocturnal so it likes hiding under the rock. I also made sure that the humidity is high within its little home. Its not too hot and also not too cold. Its mild which is perfect for Hooki. I did some investigations around my house and discovered that its a drain scorpion. The mothers and their babies go into warm damp places and have their babies there. The babies I think eat their mothers. The scorpion I have right now is too small to even sting, but I'm not going to try, so Its still forming pimentation and parts. It's pincers look like little hairs at the moments and right now its tail and sting seems bigger than its pincers which worries me as it makes it more venemouse.... it looks alot like the Parabuthus granulatus (http://www.biodiversityexplorer.org/arachnids/scorpions/buthidae/parabuthus_granulatus.htm)(Granulated thick-tailed scorpion) but I shall see in a few week's time. I am setting it free in a private game reserve. These are not common to the area I live in. Its strange that its attracted to damp humidity and loves water. Its metabolism is very slow and I don't want to feed it too mush as they have the tendency to bloat and I caught a gigantic cricket yesterday and slit it open so that it could be soft enough for Hooki to eat. I am afraid to say that these Scorpions are poisonous and if there's one of them there might be many more as it is the hottest time of the year as well as the most wet and humid time. We have had infestations of rain spiders, babboon spiders, lizards, snakes and ghekko's and had to phone our local snake catcher(who is alot Like Steve Irwin by the way) to remove some poisonous Lukkewan. Anyways My scorpion eats squashed shongololos and crickets, despises crickets and flies and loves water. Its yellow for now with black and yellowish brown lines on its back and looks alot like an American bark spider. As soon as it gets bigger I'm going to take some photos and show you guys. I'll try for now but its very hard as its extremely small and contracts its body, pulling in all eight legs when I come closer with any object.... =) thabks so much for your help!

okay some corrections to my last reply. My scorpion is much like the American yellow bark scorpion and Hooki likes shongololo and crickets. He likes crickets and doesn't seem to want to eat miniature 'grasshoppers'. I do apologise for the confusion. OH I UPLOADED SOME PHOTOS OF HOOKI UNDER THE ALBUM NAME "HOOKI". Its a public album, so anyone can feel free to comment and give me some tips for Hooki. I am an amateur when it comes to Scorpions so I'm rather easy when it comes to listening to hints and feedback. Thanks again to all you friendly foak who replied to my Thread and for being so polite and generouse with information and smiley faces. Couldn't have asked for a friendlier bunch! xx =)
