this is my miami phase corn snake , he is in blue well first stages. cant wait till he sheds so i can get the full blast of his colors. we adopted him from a nice couple who rescued him from a plant shop that he accidently got shipped to from the wild . but he is sweet and has actually befriended me before i got a chance to befriend him. so since he is new to me and my hubby and our critter friendly home , i would appreciate all and any info. thank you.

It's a beauty! I have one very similar, lucky that they run free on my property. So far I have captured 2 of them, amazing creatures!

Don't worry too much if he doesn't eat for you. A lot of male corns go through a fast during the mating season. I guess all they can think about is finding a female, so they don't have time to stop and eat, haha. As long as he is not losing weight, I wouldn't worry about it. He'll eat when he's hungry :)

yeah that is what i figured to. i wish they ran wild in my yard lol. all we have around here is red bellies and green garters. my kids want red bellies this summer , which are really easy to keep , i had them as a child all the time plus they r small and dont require a hug tank or vivarium.

oh did he/she ever lol. I have a special shelf in my room that the hubby built for our snakes to wonder around safely, my balls like it to. I am so in love with my snakes , all three of them but i am definitely getting more corns , they are great to have around so calm and active all at the same time lol.

Aren't you worried about them knocking over the bottles? :hmm: Should look awesome with climbing vines and all though!!

slithermama
03-15-12, 11:51 AM
lol nope the bottles are secured to the wood, but they will be replaced by the vines and climbing sticks, and i dont go far from them when they are up there. might put some short length shelves up on the wall to just for more to perch on.

He looks like a normal to me. He definitely doesn't seem like your typical Miami phase (which is technically a type of normal). I'm not sure what you mean by "oke phase"...

He is a beautiful normal.

If he was an okeetee, I'd expect to see thicker black lines...
He doesn't look like a Miami phase either to me though...the Miami phase usually has more grey. I'd say he's a normal :)

here is my Okeetee - yours doesn't have the borders like Okeetee's do.

Very pretty! She very well could be from Miami. I lived down there for some time, and caught many Corns. They can vary quite a bit from one snake to the next. The term Miami phase was derived by the often seen gray background color many of them have. This has been selectively bred over the years to produce snakes with exceptional gray to silver background color. Yet like I said, she may very well be from Miami. I wouldn't doubt it at all. Congratulations on a great find!

The folks I adopted her from said they found her in plants that were transported here from away, instead of letting the garden shop keeper kill her they brought her home, had her all checked out by a vet and well kept her for the last 8 years. She is my baby even tho she was meant for the hubby lol. The first time he held her she pooped all down his side :Wow: and quit a poop she had hehe. I figure she does like him cause she was comfortable enough to poop on him instead of trying to hide to do her business. :crazy2:

Beautiful snake!
He is a classic, or a normal.
Miami phase are named because the distinct coloration was originally bred from corn snakes found in pet shops in Miami. They have bright silver backgrounds.
I have a stunning example of a Miami, but to me the most beautiful corn is the classic.

A snake will either poop out of fear (as a defense) or out of relaxation.
Your hubby should be flattered either way :-)

Ok I read the entire thread, to see why the snake was being called a Miami. I thought the plants came from Miami, and so this was the reason? There are many different looking Corn snakes found in the miami area. Many don't look like the typical Miami "phase", that we all think about when we hear the word. I lived there for years, and I found some that were not gray at all. That is why I said it "could" be a Miami. It does look more like a Classic, which is basically a normal wild phenotype.
