I have it programed in my PC. Anything that says ID, I get an alert message.

Looks like a rat snake of some sort. Doesn't look like a garter snake to me :hmm:

Yeah I hate to object to Wayne but I zoomed in on the picture and the pattern is far more mottled and banded... I don't think it's a garter, it reminds me more of a northern water snake.

Excellent call +1 (without zooming it looks speckled)

I don't think Missouri counts as northern though.

I wasn't sure about that myself, so i looked it up just now... Handy little website for your viewing pleasure... http://mdc.mo.gov/sites/default/files/resources/2010/05/5187_3026.pdf
There are northern water snakes in Missouri as well as other species of water snakes too. I stick to my ID though...

My money is on a yellow bellied racer (http://www.google.ca/search?tbm=isch&source=mog&hl=en&gl=us&client=ms-android-google&tab=wi&q=easter%20yellow%20belly%20racer&sa=N&biw=320&bih=452#i=13) or possibly a yellow bellied water snake. According to that PDF northern water snakes are only found in the Norther ⅔ of MO.

This is a Thamnophis elegans vagrans (Wandering Gartersnake). It looks pretty similar to me.

The snake in your picture has a dorsal line that the snake in the OP's picture doesn't have.

Yeah, you're right. I didn't notice the zoomed-in pic of the snake.

BarelyBreathing

Unfortunately, unless we could get a better picture, it's nearly impossible to get a hundred percent identification on.

I have seen quite a few wandering garters that lack the dorsal stripe, hence my first guess.

If you check the PDF caylan posted it tells you what snakes are found in Missouri and what areas they are found.

its a speckled kingsnake...

bushsnake
03-10-12, 08:30 AM
100%.... yellow belly racers, plainbelly waters and wandering garters are not found within that range

KORBIN5895

Actually if you read page three of aforementioned PDF you will see that according to the state of Missouri they have eastern yellow bellied racers statewide.
