View Full Version : 6x3x2 Melamine Enclosure
This was custom built by John of JD Terrariums for me last year. It measures 6' x 3' x 2', and has a built-in hide box at the bottom, which is accessible via a hole in the terrarium floor, as well as a small storage compartment for odds and ends. Heat is provided with a CHE, and I have dual 48" flourescents installed to provide light.
Here is a pic of the hidebox

That's avery nice enclosure!! I'll be keeping that model in mind for the next time I'll need to build one myself ... My savannah is growing pretty quickly, so I won't have a choice to "renovate" a new enclosure for her pretty soon!
Very well done, I'm sure the futur resident will be very happy to live in there!

Fantastic looking cage! :D
Awesome cage!! The built-in hide box is really cool. I 'll try this idea in my next enclosure.

Thanks for all the comments, its for a columbian bci. I dont have pics of her in it...yet but I will post them when I do.
The cage is really heavy, it took 3 guys to lift it. Its made of melamine, and the interior is covered with smooth plastic and sealed with silicone, making it almost waterproof. The smooth surface makes cleaning a snap.
I thought of the built-in hide for 2 reasons, to maximize floor space for the snake and to not give the cage a cluttered look, as well as to help with cleaning. I just put a garbage bag under the access hole and sweep all the bark chips into it. Easy peasy. :)
JD Terrariums does not have a website right now, but they can be contacted at (416) 816-3116. Ask for John. They also attend the PCPC reptile expos. I dont think they will ship cages of my size and weight, but they have small swivelling chameleon cages etc that may be ok for shipping.
My cage cost $600 because of all the custom work I wanted (with the built-in hide and storage compartment, it was basically 3 cages). The storage compartment is also sealed with plastic and is herp ready.. just in case lol.

Go ahead, be my guest! :) If you do build a similar cage with a built-in hide box, I recommend placing a slight lip around the hide entrance so that substrate doesn't fall in that often.
Chris, I do not have blueprints per se, I just drew out (more like scratched out) what I wanted with the dimensions etc. and gave it to John. However, if you have an idea in mind and would like some help, PM me. Greg West also designs fantastic cages, and can draw you some professional blueprints.
Cheerio,
Edwin

would you mind posting some more pictures? Do you have your snake in it yet? I would like to see how the cage looks while being used...and at the same Idea try to figure out the easiest way for me to make one somewhat like it.
Sure, I will post pics once I get my friend over. I don't have a digital camera.
