Tomorrow I'll be shipping animals for the first Tim. What items do I need, and where do I get them? Will FedEx have all I need?

Thanks!

From where to where are you shipping? You'll want to check the weather beforehand. If it's cold out, you'll want to put hand warmers / a heat pack in with the box. Use a pillow case to put the snake in. Then put the pillow case in a styrofoam box. Surround the space with crumbled newspaper so that the pillow case with the snake doesn't bump around. Then put the styrofoam box into the cardboard shipping box. This is the method used by Ship Your Reptile, which I recommend. Ok, I've got two (2) :"24+ Hour" Ultra Warmers, styrofoam "Packing Noodles" and a cardboard box. Now, the warmers say "Average temp 124° Max. 149° when used as directed.

Does this sound adequate to get from IL to OH? Pickup is tomorrow morning, so I can't really get any more materials.

Thoughts?

to me this sounds just fine. its the same way the other 2 snake i received were packed.. i woudlnt worry about the heat packs, they usually dont get that hot unless you rub them alot. in my experiance any way, i think it would be great!

cant wait!!!

Ok cool! The box had some air holes in the sides, but I've taped over those to keep the cold air out. Going to bed early so I'll be up in time to package these two up and send them your way!

Thank you!

Looks like the weather is supposed to be in the mid 30's at night, the night temps are what you should worry the most about!

What kind of box are these styrofoam boxes? The snakes could suffocate.

i would open a account and order everything from here (Home - Reptiles Express - Discounted Fedex Shipping Labels and Reptile Shipping Supplies (http://www.reptilesexpress.com/)) so you know your doing it right. and Fedex will not ship snakes if your not fedex certified.

If the box get lost or snake dies they will not cover it if your not certified. And UPS will not ship snakes at all.

Okay. I know that the local pet store receives all of their Reptiles in a styrofoam cooler that the lid seals shut. They have to poke holes for the reptiles to breath.

and the holes help with the heat pack too, all the snakes i got from breeders always has holes in the box.

I did poke a hole or two in the box. Fedex just picked up about 15 minutes ago. I also saw small openings in each corher, so I'm hoping that was enough. I didn't want too many holes, since it's gonna be cool tonight.

Now I'm nervous! :hmm:

When I ordered my Boa it came inside of a small Styrofoam box inside of a cardboard box with no holes. He was in a sock tied shut and he was more than fine when I got him.

if you put holes in the box it totally defeats the purpose of a heat pack it is pointless because snakes dont use much air so they will be fine for however long there in the box.

Most heat packs are air activated and do a better job at providing heat when exposed to air. So a few smalls holes will actually keep the animal warmer. When using a heat pack if it gets cool you shake it around a bit in the open air and it will heat back up.
