I've heard this too...however to be fair, supposedly most of the animals they take in are "rescued" and supposedly too sick to be healed, and are put down for that reason. I do doubt that is the case for that high of an amount though!

Most things in the media are all about the hype. However the worst video i've ever seen in my life, that haunts me, was one taken by an undercover peta person where "they" were skinning minks alive. Supposedly alive because it keeps the fur fresher or something? no clue. I do know it was a real video, and that it was the most horrible thing ever.

There has been some arguments that they stage those videos in their own facilities (which is horrible)

not saying these things dont happen (they certainly do) but some of the "undercover" stories are insanely preposterous.

No surprise, the report has to be submitted every year, how many animals they took in, how many were transferred to other rescues, how many were adopted out, and how many were put down and for what reason (space or health). every year, the euthanisation #'s from this organization are through the roof, and the adopted out/transferred #'s rediculously low.

They were also involved in a lawsuit (don't know how it ended) that claimed they disposed of euthanised animals remains by driving around and leaving them in dumpters instead of paying the cremation fees.

They also put up a billboard here in mainland BC with a picture of a prostitute and a pig, saying "neither of us is meat" (during the Robert Pickton trial). It was gut-wrenching to see that, the province made them take it down pronto, but still........ can we say bad taste

PETA has had some pretty bad campaigns, i think its funny they put out the objectifying women is akin to eating meat shenanigans, ignoring the many sexist commercials... they have a full fledged paid porn website that they're currently working on, just Google it, I wont link it or anything cause I don't want to break any rules.. but its basically your "normal" porn site (i dont even see any anti-animal cruelty type things just a porn site w/ peta all over it..)

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. I am also one who believes that they stagethe nasty stuff that they film. The video that really made me believe that was the one about a baby Cockatoo that was sick and not receiving care or something. They show a worker "flushing the crop" and "handfeeding" the baby, but they are just jiggling a syringe full of food around in its beak and not pushing any in and showing how the baby is crying. I don't doubt that that poor bird is sick, suffering and in pain, but for gosh sakes, they're not even feeding it so maybe they're starving it for the sake of a show too. I never really watched any more videos more closely, but it just goes to show how their propaganda can make people focus on the suffering animal and overlook an obvious discrepancy. Disgusting...

just like our RSPCA over here,imo its all about money with these big groups

over here the frontline VOLOUNTEER staff of RSPCA are mostly,genuine animal lovers who do their best at the RSPCA centres.these centres don't have much cash

while their head office and management sit in big offices,drawing " huge " salarys,all for sitting thinking up how to pull more money in,for their hidden agenda's

PETA does not SAVE animals they KILL THEM.
PETA logic is that NO animal should ever be kept for ANY reason & they are ALL BETTER OFF DEAD then kept even as a member of a loving family.
PETA is a terrorist group responsible for bombings & arson.
They protest against charities including childrens charities as your child is better off dead than saved by using medical research or products derived from animals.
PETA typically has the animals they "rescue" IE: KILL killed outside the residences they pick them up from prior even pulling away from the house.
PETA has a huge walk in freezer to store the bodies of all the animals they kill prior them being hauled away.
Almost EVERY animal PETA take is KILLED see the FACTS presented in the above link.
Funny how a rescue in the same county saves like 95% & PETA KILLS 95%
OK end tangent LOL other than PETA are not the friends of animals nor friends of anyone they are HYPOCRITS preying off folks emotions by using their name, many don;t know what they really stand for.
The truth is out there be carefull before throwing your support blindly behind a "name".

P.S. Peta Kills Animals (http://petakillsanimals.com) exposes them via their tax records etc. they were forced to make public, if PETA spent even one percent of their advertsing budget saving animals it would be a miracle
