I have tiny baby Pueblan Milksnake, he's less than ten inches at this point and eats like mad.

He just had his first shed with me and it wasn't very good. I got most of it off but there is a piece stuck under his chin I cannot get.

We tried last night for like 20 minutes with wet cloth and running him threw our hands but I couldn't continue anymore because he was really getting upset. We have done this twice now. But its stressing him out and that stupid piece won't come off. And he is so darn tiny its near impossible for even my fingernails to touch his chin let alone try and rub it off gently without some serious restraint.

any ideas? Can I just leave this piece? I have never had a snake get a piece stuck so hard before. btw he does have a humid hide. :)

Marisa, that little bit under his chin won't do any harm. You can try leaving him in a damp snake bag overnite (in a secure place of course) and that should work. Otherwise, it will come off by itself in due course, don't stress the snake and yourself anymore trying to pick it off.

My young pueblan has had a couple of bad sheds. What works like a charm every time is: I take a small handtowel (you could use a washcloth or two), wet it with warm water (not too hot), wring it out leaving it moist to wep but not sopping. I then put the towel in a small kritter keeper (any small container will do tupperware with holes) and the snake between the folds of the towel. I put the container in a warmish area for about an hour and voilą! Perfectly shed snake!!!

thanks Pixie. The first thing I tried was something similar and it did remove a lot of skin! I will be definitly trying to encourage a lot of time spent in a humid hide next shed.

Thanks Scotty I will be leaving his chin alone now. *L*
