This is my second post ever on this forum :)
I just purchased my very first burm today. He's set to arrive friday morning. I chose an albino, and the seller has assured me he is male.
I'm not new to snake-keeping by any means... I've been keeping Colombian boas for years. I also keep and breed corns, although I'd hardly call a corn snake proper training for keeping a burm, haha. As for non-slithery members of my collection, I have a crested gecko (who is the apple of my eye) as well as a breeding trio of leopard geckos.
I am prepared for the eventuality of having to deal with a 19ft snake, but I'm hoping for him to max out around 12-15 feet, as males are supposed to. All the truly humongous burms I've ever seen have been female, and I've read that males normally stay smaller. Still, I am prepared for him to buck the norm, as snakes sometimes do. I'm also prepared to have someone around to help me handle him once he hits the 8ft mark.
I will say that this was a purchase I was planning to make a couple years down the road, but with the interstate transportation ban on burms going into effect soon here in the states, I knew that it was now or never. I am afraid that if I don't make a purchase now, I will not be able to pick and choose which breeder I can buy from, instead I will be limited to Michigan. Also, while I doubt that Michigan will pass a state ban (the climate here is not conducive to escaped burms running around), if that does happen in the future, I want to be grandfathered in, as those laws usually allow. So, it's happening a bit sooner that I had envisioned, but I'm sure it'll be a fun ride. I've been dreaming of owning one of these beautiful and magnificent animals since I was a teen.
I still have yet to pick a name...but I can do that while he's settling into his quarantine enclosure.
So...yeah. Hello! And I look forward to getting to know you all on this forum! :D
