Ok so I have my 2 boas together. This should produce me some babies but they have been together a couple months now and my female isn't really looking gravid. Now this is my first time breeding but so far nothing to make me jump around in joy. My intention was to breed boas this year and my JCP's next. I know my male JCP is ready to go. He isn't eating and if I give him free roam he finds his way to my females viv and searches for a way in every time.
So my question to you is. If you were me would you introduce your JCP's or wait? I'm not sure I want both females gravid but that would be better than nobody gravid.
Thoughts????
And please don't try to talk me out of doing it in this thread.
I have thought it out and am willing to spend the money to care for eveyone properly until "suitable" homes are found. Actually most of the boa babys are spoken for anyway.
Thanks !!!

Just putting your boas together is not the only thing required for boas to breed. There is alot of things that come into play when you get into breeding.Size of snakes..cooling your snakes, and health etc.
I am not going to try and talk you out of it,but I think you should read up on the breeding of both species. There are some very good books out there on breeding.

^ what he said. your boas may not be ready to breed, you may need to change temperatures to "simulate" breeding seasons, etc etc

I have read tones. My husbandry is correct, my boas are mature and they have locked many times. But mother nature can be unpredictable at best.

Did you cool the boas?

What size is your female carpet python?

I figured I would ask more relevant questions as the other posters seem to have had a hard time comprehending your original post. ;)

My female carpet is 7 1/2 ft. Never bred before. My male was bred once by his previous owner.

Basicaly all I wanted to know is if you were me in this spot what would you do? Risk having none or risk having 50ish.
I thought I was clear in my op but maybe not. In another thread I asked about letting my snakes out at the same time and 1 person tried to tell me not to keep snakes together in the same viv or try to save money on them right after I said was spending $5000 on my reptile room. Never did I say anything about doing that so maybe I confuse people. I don't know. ???

I would say hold off on putting the other male/female together. Wait it out and see what happens.

Lol! Don't house your boa with your carpet! Are you crazy?

Lol. Seriously yes I would try it. The carpet will have to produce eggs and then they will need incubated. You will have a good handle on it by then

What revelance does the size off his female have to do with anything?Since you are better at comprehending.
The question was what would you do? Breed both or one.

The question was what would you do? Breed both or one.

Actually both of those questions are relevant to my answer. If the op answered with " my female carpet is only two years old" than my answer would be wait. Since she is 7 1/2 feet I say go for it.

Also if memory serves me right he got a wicked deal on a female sunglow but didn't take time to quarantine her. Which means he might not of taken time to cool them either. I am not picking at the op I am just pointing out why my questions are relevant.

Now do you have anything relevant to add Trent? Or was that it?

I hold off on the boas and go with the Jungles. It's more of a sure thing they will get it on.

I agree with marvel freak. If it seems like they want to breed and your female boa is not gettig gravid then split them up and put your carpets together. If that is not an option for you I would do both of them. Good luck!

Reason being that you are thinking about it. If you are breeding and have any second thought at all about taking on more babies I say wait it out. If You have time to hold off then do so.

So no real reason other than the fact that you are thinking about it.

Your right. That was me. I have been following a guide from a successful boa breader and have done the right things thus far.

Yeah I have no doubts they will go to town. Thanks

I am leaning this way. I am going to price/ buy what I need for a 50 tub rack at Sundays expo. If I can afford it ( probably can :) ) then I am going to do it. What the hell eh!!

Better off being over prepared than under prepared. I say plan for having a huge clutch and not selling any of them, then you can go from there. no use in not having enough space that would all lie on you not the snakes faults and they'd be the ones to suffer for it.

If you can go buy more racks, etc etc then i say go for it, otherwise dont risk not having the room.
