Quick question about muti species

So we are building an elaborate reptile room in our garage this spring. One of the things I intend to have is a climbing structure like a ladder that goes from one wall to the other for our snakes to hang out on when we clean thier vivs or just want to give them some exercise. If I put lets say a boa up there and then a carpet will they " get along"? I assume they will but do any of you mix it up in the snake room and let multiple species mingle? I know not to add my king to this mix but other than him can I mix it up?

I can't really answer your question but the climbing thing is exactly what I've been trying to make in my room for the past month!!! :p I haven't quite figured out how to do it yet.

But back to your question I would assume they would do fine but I would definitely keep an eye on them if you do.

Make a ladder out of bamboo and make it about a foot short of wall to wall. Use rope to tie it to the walls.

I don't want to burst you bubble because this sounds like a cool idea but I feel it is going to be a lot of work with not much outcome.
1. Canada is cold! lol your cage will really only be useful in the mid day of summer. I feel like you won't be able to achieve good enough temps for your snake to actually be active enough to use the whole enclosure.
2. I would be worried about toxic fumes from your car being pulled in and out (if it can still be used after enclosure is built. It would have to be a super sealed enclosure.
3. Possibly stress the snakes out, therefore you will not be getting the activity level you were hoping for.

just a few things that come to my mind. Like I said I don't want to be a debbie downer I just think there are so many things you would have to consider aside from wondering if the species could intermingle which I am not even sure if that is a good idea or not.

No bubble bursting here. We are not using it as a garage period. I have plans to tear out all of the drywall and spray insulate with a heated floor. In the dead of winter it will be 77 inside the reptile room. I am set my budget at $5k for the room alone. We are putting in all new electrical right from the main panel. This room will be as good as it gets.


Edit. My snakes will all still have their own vivs and will only mingle occasionaly. If they can safely. If not then not. We have 8 snakes now and have plans to get a beardie, a chameleon and i eventualy want an eastern indigo snake or breeding pair. We are doing it right and not cheaping out

I would never advise risking the conflict that may arise.

If a boa and carpet were to suddenly clash, could you or would you even want to get in the middle of that??

We are talking about two very powerful animals, once they start fighting, getting in there to break it up is just asking to get hurt, and hurt bad.

The ladder idea sounds great, but I wouldn't let any snakes of different species co-mingle. Can't wait to see pics when you finish that reptile room :)

This is my thinking too but I saw a youtube vid where a British guy had a boa and a ball python on the same structure and some else told me once it was fine as long as they had space to get away from ine another. Curiosity got the best of me so I thought I would check here as here are the only people I truly trust :)

Lots of people have their snakes do fine in enclosures with each other...however the cold facts are, they are solitary animals. It only takes ONCE. For me, wheather it's for my viewing pleasure, ease of space or saving electricity bills...the risk of my snakes being unhappy or fighting or eating each other is not worth it.

No no no. I don't want to keep anyone together. I was wondering if I can let them out together. Do you honestly think I care about a bit of hydro when I'm spending big cash on their reptile room? Maybe I wasn't clear in my first post. I just wanted opinions on letting multiple species of snake wander in the same room/area.

I allow my snakes to intermingle with one another with the exception of the smallest ones. If there is not a crazy size difference, you should be okay as long as you monitor their initial reactions to one another.

Of course, you have to weigh the cons of such an exercise. I can't let my male P. regius meet the female P. breitensteini, for instance. I also can't let my male brongs meet the breit, but my Epicrates have met my Morelia and my P. regius and such. I'll usually only let males out, or females out because I don't' want any Frankensteins being created.

It's not unusual in my place to have a Blood or two bulldozing around in the snake room while the Royal, a Carpet and the larger Rainbow are all trucking around, crossing paths and generally thinking of one another as nothing more than something in each other's way that will just be crawled over like so many inanimate objects, but I tend to be sitting in there with them while this is happening.

I allow mine to intermingle as well. I almost always have at least 2 out at a time, however I do occasionally get more out. I try to keep the bigger ones separated from the smaller ones although sometimes the babies will crawl over the bigger ones and they just lay there an let them do it. lol The only two that I don't intermingle with the others is the king (obviously :p ) and the rainbow as she still a bit shy although no longer strike happy.

The longest I've had a large group out is about 30 minutes and there was 3 of us watching them. I had the two dumerils, the two burms, my three royals, and my friend's royal all together. You could tell his animal had never been around others as his snake would always move in the direction away from the others. The dumerils and the burms pretty much stayed where I put them while the other three royals were all over the place lol.

But it's nothing for me to have 2 out at a time, depending upon how active they are and it's usually the same species. But I have had two different ones out together for short periods of time (20 minutes or so) with no issues. While any of my animals are out, someone (usually me) is always monitoring them.

See thats what I hope I can do. Pull everyone (almost) out and allow to free roam a 22' x16' reptile room or hang out on a perch while I do the room wide douche. Then I can return them when done. There are 5 people sharing the duties.

this is what I was thinking. Build 2 or 3 smaller ladders that you can isolate from each other.

Space the perches out through out the room...

I have a mate that has perches hanging on ropes accross his reptile room, one in each corner. He never has more than four snakes out at a time as that becomes to hard to watch while doing chores. He puts a snake in each perch and as they are hanging like bird perches from the roof each snake has no way down and no way to reach each other.
