A Completely Different Attitude

I love it when my big burm sheds. While she's in shed, she's like a female with a severe case of PMS. I can't even clean her tub without her getting irate with me. Although she has yet to attempt to strike, her whole demeanor tells me if I make one wrong move (and I never can tell what the move would be lol), she'll get me lol.

She finally shed today and now she's back to the sweet girl she always is. Right now she's hanging out around me, being her usually nosey self. :D

She's the only one out of my collection that has such a Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde complex during shed.

Anyone else have animals that are extremely moody during shed?

My black milksnake is still a little guy, but hes currently in shed and its the only time he will avoid me completely, i opened his cage to mist it a little and keep the humidity up and he saw my hand move in to clean off the substrate that was over the hygrometer and he booked it away from me and hid in his other hide, it was pretty funny

My king does that anytime I go in her tub. lol

When my others are in shed, you can tell they don't care for any interaction, but they tolerate it. They don't get grumpy when I take them out to clean their tubs, but you can just tell they'd prefer me not to pick them up. My bigger burm (both are still less than a year old) is just a grump the whole time. I hate messing with her when she's in shed to clean her cage. She's an angel any other time lol

my male hognose copper. Everyone else is pretty docile and easygoing during a shed. Copper however, looks like a sad puppy dog. He's not defensive...he just looks MISERABLE. I mean like, dramatic wiggling into an uncomfortable looking position...coiled strangely, staring at me from his cage and slowly following me along it, just to curl up and stare some more. just any kind of position or demeanor that says he feels sorry for himself *lol* once he's she he's hunky dory...curious, active, etc. None of any of the other animals (including my other hoggie) come close to acting that sad and pathetic *lo* The shed came off whole and hale, and he didn't seem to have any trouble with it. He just seemed upset he HAD to do it *lol*

Pretty much all my snakes remain the same despite a little more in cage defense. In that I mean a nasal hiss, as in "oh man, not now..." Just continue approach as normal and the snake comes out just fine. Some of my snakes aren't this nice at the best of times though. The jag in shed is more or less hands off, I can't even comment on the experience yet lol. Thank god she's never needed anything done while in shed yet, the horrors lol! She's still just a little thing too... But yeah, everyone else has virtually the same attitude in shed or not, for me anyways.

That's funny, I just made almost the exact same post as the OP here in regards to our Malaki. It was his first shed with us and he's just like your girl. Must be a Burm thing. :)

Dunno. My other burm gets a little irritable, but doesn't act anything like Baby Girl. Most of my animals are ok with small amounts of handling during shed, just long enough for me to clean tubs, although I'm not near as OCD about cleaning tubs for those in shed....I check twice a day and wash out and change paper even if it's just a tiny bit messy. Baby Girl is just like "RAWR!!!! Leave me alone!" I think it's kinda funny, but I do take a little more precaution with her when she acts like this...and it's almost that time again. lol

None of my snakes has even come close to showing a different attitude when they're in shed. They still have the calm demeanor like always. I try not to disturb them too much when they're getting ready to shed,i only offer fresh water, and do any spot cleanings if needed. But still, the rare occasions when i've had to move them, they never acted any differently.

Seeing as my King wants to eat even when blue he is a bit wonky is shed. When he can't see he strikes at anything that moves. Including me. Never been tagged but he tries. My female boa will give the nudge to go away when she is blue. All the others are fine.
