So I'm in north bay, it's like 2 hours away from sudbury were I live, my girlfriend is getting her hair done, so I decided to go see ghost rider 3D and I'm thinking to myself, I want a snake! Haha it's random but I think I want one! I want to get 1 more herp when the summer comes around, it's between a bearded dragon, or a snake of some kind! I want something I can handle lots with minimum stress! To show it off :) I don't really know what I want :) tips? Advice ? :)

You want a snake to 'show it off'? Sorry, but that's Wrong Reason #001.

I'm a begginer with snakes too man. It was a too up between a corn or a royal python. I saw my royal and fell in love. I'm thinking my next is gonna BA a corn though ;-)

Corn would be your best bet.Bomb proof more or less.
I have to agree with cdn blood..you should not get one if showing off is the main reason.

A corn snake is a great choice... Great for beginners, very forgiving, and tolerate handling really well :)

Apples and oranges my friend.
Both are very easy to care for but tell us more specifically what you want.

Well i loved showing off my dog before he died, he was a 170 lb rottweiler named bear, doesn't mean i didnt love him!

but i think the meaning behind it is a lot of people see "new snake owners" and going into snakes for a "badass" pet and not to actually take care of the snake as a pet/family member.

Also define what you think "lots" is, cause you wont have it out 5 hours a day or anything

Normally I agree with this but I have read most of Brady's posts and he has said he wants one to get over his fear a couple of times. I think it was mostly a poor choice of words this time.

I am going to recommend a garter. I think he would enjoy it more. I want a garter next! :)

IMHO although I do agree with Todd You do have a Sav so your commited.
If you can take care if the needs of a Sav most snake should be easy.
Again IMHO after getting boas, carpets, a royal, a king and a gopher , I have to say get a Royal ( ball python ) They are impressive to look at and easy to care for. Plus most will tolerate a few newbie mistakes. So my vote is ball python.
Good luck and post pics when you get one.

I agree. I've read all of bradys posts about his sav and I feel he has a genuine interest in the health and well being of his animals. So I didn't pick up on th show off quote. Go for a corn man ;-)

Tidbit of trivia, Royal Pythons (Balls) are from Cass's neighbourhood.

So if you got a ball, you would have a savannah monitor and a savannah snake too.

I personally think if you are going for something to go with a snake for right now until you get settled in a good place where you know you will be for awhile. Bearded dragons need more space then most snakes and cost quite a bit more to keep, even more space if you want to have your own feeders. I have my dragon in a 120 gallon custom made and she uses every inch of it, its a pain to move. If you don't know where you are going to end up in the next few months or even a few years, where you already have something that needs a lot of space I would try to stick to something on the smaller side that is more convenient encase you have to 'get up and go'.

Did you just recommend a royal over a garter? I am speechless .......

GarterPython

^ Haha I was suprised too. Wayne has alot of Garter's.

I might be Bias about the types but I think that for the handling you would want a ball python because generally they don't bite very much and they tolerate quite a bit of stuff but a Garter snake doesn't need as muc space. And back to the bias part, I am kinda bias because I don't really like corn snakes! :) I definitly vote either Garter Snake or Ball (Royal) Python.

Yah! A snake would Be great for This reason! But I would want a bearded dragon more I think that am I staying in my town for 5 more years! An I have Cass old tank for my bearded dragon till he's older! 40 gal should be good for while! But I also want a snake! Leaning towards a corn snake I've been doing research! The next reptile I get I'm doing months and months of research, cause I don't wanna talk to a pet store lady for my information! Cause lets be honest she said my savannah monitor would be easy and only grow to the size of his 40 gal tank! Haha

I dont have any "digital" photos of him, he died when i was 15, i used to take him on runs all the time and his hips were always healthy. he was a beast of a dog though, not fat or anything just beefy haha

I just want to point out, I had my dragon in a 40 breeder up until when she reached about a year, she is only 17 inches which is on the smaller side and I found it very uncomfortable for her to turn around.

I know this sucks to hear but even though you may WANT something doesn't mean you should have it. Only a few nights ago I read your thread about being kicked out and not knowing what to do with your monitor. All i'm saying is that came upon you very suddenly and you wont be sure if and when it will happen again. I just do not think it is responsible to bring an animal into a situation where you are scrambling to think of a way to deal with the situation that doesn't involving putting more stress on yourself and your animal.

I would get a slightly older corn or adult female garter. They're going to be less nippy most likely, larger and therefore easier to keep track of, and most tolerant of handling.

I second this. While I cant speak about any Garter since I have no experience with them, I can say absolutely an adult Corn makes an awesome first snake.

Adult female garter snakes are usually very calm and quite tolerant of people.

Nice, I like that. Thank you Wayne for filling in with your experience where I lack. :) From what I see in this pic, apparantly Garters also fulfill what I look for in handleability. That having been said, yeah, both are excellent first snakes.

:wacky:

I can't stand anything he's in.. he ruined that whole movie.. I remember when the first one came out i was like OH EYAH GHOST RIDER SWEET

NICK CAGE?! WHAT?! *headdesk*

and in 3d? I'm better off turning that $15 into a fleet of $1 bill paper airplanes and throwing them at hobos. Not only would it be hilarious, i'd be changing lives!

He's not bad in movies that are overloaded with special effects. I've noticed in movies like ghost rider he seems to rely on them to make the movie. Things like National Treasure and Gone in 60 Seconds he actually acts and the movies show it. But people are so enamored with his good movies they continue to see his bad ones.
