The following was a blog I wrote for another forum and I thought it would be cool to have it here as well for people to enjoy...

I want to give you a little background. We got our first taste of these shows at the Des Moines show in March. It was there that we acquired Kermit and Miss Piggy, our yearling Dums. Then we went to Omaha in April, I believe, when we acquired a breeding trio of 8 year old Dums. Lulu, the smaller female developed a respiratory infection and never recovered from it. Then Brian, our roommate at the time, made a deal and traded his bloods for a pair of Carpets, a pair of Macklots and a baby Carpet, of which we bought the Macklots. I was looking forward to the Kansas City show in July but budget restraints prevented us from going. It was at that time that I was even more determined to go to Kansas City for the next show which was in September, come hell or high water.

We left that morning later than I wanted but we eventually got there. While we were there, Laura decided to systematically talk to every vendor at every table there. I was more interested in the snakes. Keep in mind, I dont like window shopping. If I see something I want, I will do what I can to get it. Now before the trip, I was thinking about a pair of Carpets, since I love Carpets, or another pair of Macklots, because we cant breed our pair since they are clutchmates, but I never expected to be able to score an unrelated pair of Brazilians. However, this is exactly what we got, even though time was running out since it was near the end of the show. When I saw them, I wanted them and now. The guy who sold them to us also sold the small Dums to us at the March Des Moines show and is the owner of Golizards pet store in Kansas City. By the way, I recommend doing business with him to anyone. He'll treat you right. This is why I felt really good about this deal and got the money needed to get them.

On our way home, I was totally satisfied with our collection and decided to name these Brazilians Ramón and Charro. They were still babies but given enough time for them to grow up, I knew they'd produce great babies themselves.

Then something happened a few weeks later. Our cat had managed to open the tub Charro was in and let her out. We never saw her again. I was heartbroken about it but decided that I wanted to replace her in the next show we went to, which happened to be the November Des Moines show. Again we went through the same routine. Laura went to every vendor at every table at the show while I was more interested in the snakes. Once again, at the end of the show, we found a suitable replacement. She was a little bigger than Charro was but was glowing with health and the price was right. I was like, "I want her!". I did not leave the table until we bought her and only then was I totally satisfied again.

I decided to name her Rita because she is the pearl that I found in the midst of everything else that was there.

I just realized I shouldve posted this blog repost in the General Discussion because its not a current or upcoming event so if this could be moved, Id appreciate it. The reason for me reposting this blog from another forum is to give you guys a little taste of what it was like for me in the early days of snake keeping for me.
